The Corporate Services branch plays a crucial role in enabling VGSO's overall success by providing essential support and strategic guidance to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Balancing an appreciation of the complexities and nuances of the public sector, along with the requirements of operating in a competitive legal services environment, the branch delivers proactive, effective and efficient services to VGSO's internal and external clients.

Through its work, the Corporate Services branch fosters a cohesive and supportive environment that encourages innovation, continuous improvement, and a client-centric approach.

Functionally, the following business areas are included within the Corporate Services branch:

Office of the Chief Operating Officer (Strategy and Governance)
Financial Planning and Analysis

About The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an eager and enthusiastic Legal Assistant to join the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office and provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to our solicitors.

Role

Based in Corporate Services but embedded across the organisation, this role offers a truly unique opportunity to work in a dynamic "float" capacity across our six legal branches:

Commercial, Property and Technology
Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Police Advisory
Public Law and Planning
Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law
Workplace Relations and Occupational Safety

Responsibilities

Within this role, you'll gain exposure to varied matters, complex challenges, and a wide spectrum of practice areas. It's an ideal role for someone seeking broad professional development and hands on legal experience. Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

Preparing correspondence and court documents – drafting and typing (dictaphone)
Amending and formatting documents
File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format
Diary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlines
Telephone assistance – both incoming and screening
General administration – billing, photocopying, couriers, relieving reception
Looking for ways to reduce the administrative workload of solicitors

Skills And Experience

The ideal candidate will preferably have previous legal support experience law firm, however, we are keen to hear from candidates with demonstrated experience in performing a range of high level administrative support duties in a professional services environment.

You Will Bring With You To This Role

Previous administrative experience in a professional services environment
Ability to prioritise and effectively manage time to meet competing priorities
Confident in providing high level administrative assistance to multiple operators in a busy environment
Be a self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
High attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
