Location: Brisbane, QLD. This role is part-time telework with potential in-person attendance at the assigned office or project.
Job Summary
As a Civil Designer, you will plan, develop, and quality check civil design work, produce 3D models, drawings and documentation for a project, and take-off quantities for estimating.
Major Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, coordinate and review design work within a small-size civil/structural design group on projects of medium size or in support of the global business unit.
- Produce models, drawings (including drafting) and documentation in accordance with established design standards for civil works (e.g., earthwork, road and drainage structures).
- Ensure civil/structural systems designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
- Prepare or oversee civil design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget; manage implementation and performance.
- Coordinate and interface with civil engineers, designers and drafters on daily technical work.
- Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.
- Coordinate civil design work with other project groups and with client representatives as delegated.
- Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (clients, suppliers).
- Develop Engineering Department Procedures, Bechtel design guides, and Bechtel standards and practices.
- Mentor civil designers and drafters by providing on-the-job training for professional development.
Education and Experience
- Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
- Extensive experience undertaking design and drafting using MicroStation and OpenRoads software.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading drawings, and reproduction methods used in the discipline.
- Experience with multi-discipline interface management and global 3D model oversight.
- Ability to read, interpret and use drawings prepared by other project groups.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction materials related to design responsibilities.
- Experience in design and drafting with demonstrated leadership or directing personnel.
- Working rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
