Overview
Saltbush Community Services delivers culturally safe, trauma-informed programs that empower First Nations people across the Northern Territory. The Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) Program – Tracks to Tomorrow supports people aged 15+ transitioning from custodial settings to community life, fostering reconnection to family, culture, education, and employment.
Role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Social Worker to provide individual and group therapeutic support to REAL Program participants. This role is critical in supporting emotional stability, resilience, and behavioural change during the transition from justice settings to the community.
You will deliver evidence-based counselling, contribute to therapeutic and transitional case plans, and work closely with service providers to ensure holistic, integrated support for participants.
Responsibilities
* Conduct therapeutic assessments and deliver early intervention counselling to address trauma, grief, emotional regulation, and coping strategies.
* Facilitate group programs, including Footsteps Forward, in custodial and community settings.
* Support participants pre-release, at release, and post-release to ensure smooth transition to community life.
* Coordinate referrals to clinical, specialist, and community services.
* Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation in line with legislation, policy, and Saltbush standards.
* Build and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders to provide sustainable, integrated support.
About you
* Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work with current professional registration.
* Experience delivering counselling to clients with complex trauma.
* Demonstrated ability in trauma-informed, culturally safe practices.
* Experience working with youth and adults with complex, co-existing needs, including justice-involved clients.
* Ability to work in custodial and community environments.
* Strong collaborative skills and ability to maintain professional relationships with service providers.
* Knowledge of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* High-level organisational skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
