About the Unit:

CNARTS Website -

Central and Northern Adelaide Renal Transplantation Service (CNARTS), based at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, performs the kidney, pancreas and islet transplants for South Australia and the Northern Territory. Kidney transplants number up to 100 each year including a large proportion of transplants in First Nations Australians. This also includes 20-30 live donor transplants each year, with a vision to expand the living donor program in the future. The transplant team contributes to dialysis access surgery for a population of approximately 900 dialysis patients, across The Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) and Country LHNs. The unit is the largest renal unit in South Australia, and one of the largest in Australia. It undertakes the full range of nephrological services, including extensive outreach services to country SA and NT. CNARTS has a very strong culture of research, teaching/training, contributions to the Adelaide University and to professional societies. The surgical program is accredited by the GSA for transplant training for Post Fellow Education and Training (PFET) which is recognised by RACS and supports 2 registrar / fellow positions.

About the Role

Join CALHN as a Renal Transplant Surgeon and lead high-quality transplant care across a complex tertiary network. You will contribute to the transplant surgical on-call roster, retrieval roster, dialysis access surgery, surgical audit and governance activities and clinical research. This position also comes with a highly unique opportunity to hold a hybrid role between CNARTS and non-transplant surgical services, depending on candidate preferences and skill set. There is also opportunity to pursue private practice within and outside of CALHN.

Duties of the role

* Contribute to advanced renal transplant and dialysis access care
* Outreach to Northern Territory for transplant assessments
* Participation in organ donation and retrieval service
* Pancreas transplantation skills are desired but NOT essential
* Opportunity to contribute to general or other subspecialty surgical programs
* Manage transplant patients and clinical decision making
* Supervise and support junior doctors and trainees
* Drive teaching, research, audit and protocol design
* Partner with teams to deliver safe, efficient care

About You You are a highly skilled transplant surgeon ready to lead complex care, teach others and shape best practice across a major teaching network. Please see Role Description for full list of eligibility criteria


• Specialist transplant qualifications with renal transplant expertise

• Specialist registration eligible with the Medical Board of SA

• Advanced clinical skills in renal transplant and vascular access

• Proven leadership in multidisciplinary teams and clinical teaching

• Active involvement in research, audit and quality improvement
