Job Details:
Navy Synthetic Warfighting Centre (NSWC) provides simulation-enabled Warfare Training to Navy personnel. The lifecycle of a typical training exercise consists of: exercise planning, exercise/game construction (EXCON), scenario testing, training/exercise delivery (Simulation Control), and after action review (AAR). The SIMCON/EXCON role is involved in each stage of the exercise lifecycle
- This position is only available to Australian citizens. Permanent Residents and working visa holders will not be considered, as the incumbent must hold a current Australian Defence Security Clearance at minimum NV1 level, with ability to upgrade to NV2_.
The Opportunity
This position is part of the NSWC Technical team and involves configuration, optimisation, and maintenance of the NSWC simulation training environment. The NSWC simulation training environment consists of data networks, servers, workstations, databases, simulation software and interfaces between dissimilar systems.
This is a relatively junior technical position that operates as part of a small team (3-4 staff). Although a junior position, the role requires good analytical, technical, and problem solving skills as the work environment is dynamic and evolving. The NSWC Technician must be capable of determining when issues need to be escalated to a higher level and seeking assistance and collaboration with other team members.
The Person
Essential:
- appropriate qualifications in an IT-related discipline (Certificate or Diploma), focusing on systems administration roles;
- understand the principles of service design with a basic understanding of ITIL service management practices and the ITIL service design model;
- Experience in a military IT environment;
- the ability to:
- display personal and professional skills and ability to liaise with other areas of Defence during the conduct of military exercises;
- demonstrates effective communication skills;
- has good analytical and problem solving skills;
- contributes fully to the work of teams;
- It is a prerequisite that the NSWC Technician has a minimum security clearance of NV1.
Desirable:
- experience in administering Windows & Linux Desktop and server environments and managing virtualized environments. (Red Hat experience preferred);
- understanding of networking and TCP/IP setup (Cisco or other vendor) and troubleshooting skills;
- experience working with military combat management systems;
- Familiarity with as many as possible of the following:
- TCP/IP
- Cisco networking (Routing and Switching)
- Virtualisation
- MS Server
- MS SQL
- MS SharePoint
- Citrix
- Scripting (e.g. using Powershell)
- understanding of PRINCE2 or PMBOK project management methodologies;
