Metso is a global leader in mining equipment and solutions. As we continue to grow our aftermarket business within Bulk Materials Handling (BMH), we are seeking a Chief Mechanical Engineer to lead Project Engineering activities across Australia.
This senior technical leadership role is responsible for engineering governance, technical standards, and continuous improvement across new projects, upgrades, refurbishments, and legacy systems. As the regional technical authority for BMH mechanical systems, you will drive engineering strategy, ensure global alignment, and mentor engineers across the organisation.
Team You Belong To
You will be part of a global, multidisciplinary Project Engineering network, collaborating with product specialists, engineers, designers, field service, proposals, and sourcing teams worldwide. You will support a broad BMH equipment portfolio, including rotary car dumpers, stackers and reclaimers, apron and belt feeders, conveyor systems, bucketwheel reclaimers, and legacy BMH equipment. What You'll Do
Technical & Strategic Leadership
* Define and execute the regional BMH engineering strategy aligned with global standards
* Act as the senior technical authority for BMH mechanical systems
* Promote governance, standardisation, and technical consistency
Engineering & Aftermarket Support
* Oversee design, analysis, validation, and technical approvals
* Lead refurbishment, life-extension, and modernisation initiatives
* Provide high-level engineering support during critical field events
* Translate field learnings into improved standards and product enhancements
* Collaborate closely with global BMH Project Engineering teams
* Contribute to global initiatives and product development
* Mentor engineers and develop future technical leaders
Quality & Continuous Improvement
* Ensure compliance with internal processes and industry regulations
* Develop and maintain engineering standards and documentation
* Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices and tools
Who You Are
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (postgraduate qualifications advantageous)
* 15+ years' experience in mechanical engineering within heavy industry or BMH equipment
* Experience supporting equipment failures and site-based challenges
* Background in global or multicultural organisations
* Strong expertise in machine design, structural behaviour, materials, drives, and manufacturing processes
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and engineering data management systems
* Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
* Willingness to travel up to 20%
