Wodonga Senior Secondary College is a government year 10 to 12 co‑education school in the local government area of Wodonga. The College is located 1 km from central Wodonga on 7.84 hectares surrounded by residential housing.

Wodonga is one of the fastest‑growing regional cities in Victoria with a population of 39 351. It is located 3 hours and 20 minutes from Melbourne on the Hume Hwy. As a regional centre families can access social services, health, employment, art and culture, and can commute to Albury (7.8 km) for work and leisure.

Wodonga Senior Secondary College provides all‑abilities access to high‑quality facilities that meet the needs of our students and the wider community. The main building encompasses teaching and learning spaces for science, digital literacy, mathematics, literature, history and language. The College also offers industry‑standard learning spaces for trades, children's services, hair and beauty, hospitality and well‑equipped sporting and performing arts centres.

Its campuses include the Seymour, Shepparton, Benalla and Wodonga Flexible Learning Centres and Choice Wodonga, which cater to students who experience difficulties accessing mainstream school by providing tailored educational pathways.


Selection Criteria

* Demonstrated strategic ICT leadership experience across a complex, multi‑site environment spanning diverse and geographically dispersed locations.
* Expert knowledge of educational ICT systems and services including infrastructure, cloud platforms, digital learning environments and telecommunications.
* Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams including software developers, infrastructure engineers and technical support staff.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to build consensus and drive digital transformation.
* Extensive hands‑on experience managing integrated school‑specific systems including CCTV, access control, BMS and 1:1 student device programmes.
* High‑level problem‑solving and project management abilities with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
* Experience in facilities management and involvement in building projects, particularly where infrastructure planning and implementation were critical to project success, will be highly regarded.


Position Overview

The Director of IT Services is a senior leadership position responsible for providing strategic and operational direction for all information and communication technology (ICT) services across a multi‑campus, multi‑school network comprising seven campuses located in Wodonga, Shepparton, Benalla and Seymour. The role supports a community of over 2 300 students and more than 430 staff, ensuring consistent, secure and innovative technology services that enable excellence in teaching, learning and administration across geographically dispersed locations.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director leads the planning, delivery and continual improvement of ICT systems that underpin the organisation's educational and operational goals. This includes strategic oversight of network infrastructure, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, software development, digital communication tools, physical security systems (CCTV, access control, BMS) and large‑scale device management programmes such as the 1:1 student notebook initiative.

The position provides expert guidance, leadership and evidence‑based decision‑making to ensure ICT aligns with broader school and departmental priorities. The Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the school's digital future, driving innovation, supporting pedagogical change through technology and ensuring the reliability and scalability of all technical systems.

In addition, the Director holds significant accountability for ICT budgets, staff leadership, service governance and risk management. The Director manages and mentors a multidisciplinary ICT team across multiple locations, fostering collaboration, professional growth and high‑performance service delivery standards.

Attendance during term breaks will be required and a leave purchase allowance will be paid for this time. Some out‑of‑hours work may be required for major system upgrades or emergencies.

An education support class position at level 2 has a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to support the educational services being provided to students. In exercising the responsibility, an education support class position at level 2 will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Has primary accountability for IT budgets, programmes, staff performance and ICT risk management. Routinely provides expert advice to the Executive teams on technology matters.


Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership and Planning

* Lead the development and execution of the ICT strategic plan aligned with school and departmental goals.
* Contribute to whole‑of‑school policy development and decision‑making processes.
* Provide expert ICT and systems advice to the school leadership teams.
* Evaluate emerging technologies and systems to support school‑wide innovation and future planning in line with department policies.


ICT Infrastructure and Technical Operations

* Oversee the design, deployment, and ongoing management of ICT systems across seven campuses, ensuring performance, reliability and security.
* Manage network infrastructure, servers, cloud services and end‑user device environments (staff and student).
* Maintain high service levels for digital learning platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Office 365, SharePoint, OneDrive).
* Oversee telephony systems (landline, mobile, VoIP) and audiovisual systems across all locations.
* Ensure systems integration, standardisation and interoperability across geographically dispersed sites.
* Develop and maintain ICT policies, disaster recovery procedures and system documentation in line with Department of Education standards.


Software Development and Management

* Lead a team of internal and/or contracted developers in delivering custom digital software solutions supporting educational and operational outcomes.
* Oversee lifecycle management of applications supporting school operations and educational delivery.
* Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
* Evaluate new software solutions to improve workflow efficiency, reporting and digital learning practices.


Security and Building Technologies

* Manage and monitor integrated security systems including CCTV monitoring, electronic access control, Building Management Systems (BMS).
* Ensure alignment with health and safety and Departmental policy.
* Collaborate with facilities teams and external contractors during building projects to ensure ICT infrastructure and systems are integrated effectively into new or refurbished spaces.
* Provide ICT input into design and planning phases of capital works, ensuring alignment with long‑term technology strategy.


Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

* Lead digital communication initiatives across the school community to enhance collaboration and information sharing.
* Support digital learning practices and collaboration via Teams, Office 365 and other platforms.
* Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including DET technical support teams, vendors and service providers.


1:1 Student Notebook Programme

* Oversee the rollout, configuration, asset management and lifecycle of 1:1 student notebooks across all school sites.
* Manage warranty and insurance claim processes, ensuring minimal downtime for students.
* Coordinate and supervise an onsite repair service operated by school‑based technical staff, covering initial fault diagnosis, hardware repair or replacement under warranty, coordination of insurance‑based repairs, maintenance of accurate service records and inventory tracking; ensure that repair turnaround times meet service level expectations and support continued student access to learning.
* Liaise with external vendors and manufacturers for complex escalations or parts procurement.


Budget and Human Resources

* Manage ICT operational and project budgets.
* Lead, mentor, and evaluate performance of IT and technical staff.

Develop and implement policies and standards for ICT service delivery and governance.

Required qualifications and experience:

* Relevant tertiary qualification in ICT, Engineering or a related discipline (AQF Level 7 or above preferred) OR equivalent demonstrated experience in ICT leadership within educational settings.
* Minimum 5 years of progressive ICT leadership experience in a multi‑campus educational environment.
* Demonstrated experience in ICT leadership within a school or educational setting is essential.
* Experience contributing to building projects or facilities management initiatives, especially in educational environments, is advantageous.
