We are seeking a highly motivated Radiation Oncologist to join the Northern Cancer Service, based in Launceston.
About The Northern Cancer Service
The Northern Cancer Service provides comprehensive and integrated cancer care, offering state‑of‑the‑art medical oncology, radiation oncology, and haematology services to approximately 250,000 people across Northern Tasmania. The service operates radiation therapy sites in both Launceston and Burnie. The WP Holman Clinic in Launceston has the capacity to operate up to three linear accelerators and provides outreach services to our Burnie site. Burnie currently operates as a single‑machine unit; with a second linear accelerator recently added, we are expanding services.
Your Role & Opportunities
Radiation Oncology Team
* The W.P. Holman Clinic in Launceston has five Radiation Oncologists and one fully accredited advanced trainee position.
* A newly qualified Radiation Oncologist (IMG) has recently joined the team for at least the next two years.
Advanced Techniques & Specialised Services
* Stereotactic Therapy
* Brachytherapy Service
* Launceston provides Brachytherapy services for the entire state of Tasmania (500,000 people).
* The facility is expanding, with opportunities for candidates interested in upskilling in this field.
* Our modern Brachytherapy Suite was upgraded last year with new HDR equipment, providing exciting new opportunities.
Research & Multidisciplinary Collaboration
* Our clinical trials and research unit, based in Launceston, runs a range of Phase 2 & 3 trials.
* A rigorous Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) programme fosters collaborative patient care.

Details of Appointment
* Position: Fixed term full‑time, working 76 hours per fortnight, with on‑call duties. Fixed‑term hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.
* Start Date: As soon as possible.
* Location: WP Holman Clinic Launceston.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time and part‑time vacancies.
Remuneration package
Includes a base salary and a suite of allowances. As an illustration, the total package would start at $484,000 per annum for a specialist with nine years of experience.
Base salary: In accordance with the current Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
* Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum.
* Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
Allowances
* Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum.
* Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum.
* Private Patient Scheme: 35% of base salary.
* On‑call allowance (based on 1 in 6): 6.7% of base salary.
* Relocation package and accommodation allowance available.
Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
* Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in the speciality of radiation oncology.
* Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
* Conviction checks in the following areas: crimes of violence, sex‑related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty, identification check, disciplinary action in previous employment check.
