HSQE Process Safety Advisor - hands‐on process safety role in a high‐risk transport and dangerous goods environment

Lead audits and regulatory engagement (WorkSafe, EPA, NHVR). Full‐time on site in Melbourne's Western Suburbs with occasional interstate travel. Circa $115k+super.

Full job description

This opportunity sits within the OHSQE function of a specialist transport and logistics business operating in a highly regulated, high‐risk environment. Supporting multiple sites across Victoria and occasionally interstate, this role blends hands‐on safety delivery with broader coordination and stakeholder engagement.

Stepping into a business following a recent re‐licensing with WorkSafe, you will play a key role in maintaining compliance, supporting day‐to‐day operations, and continuing to embed robust safety practices across the network.

Reporting to the GM–OHSQE, you will operate as a trusted safety partner to operational leaders, working closely with supervisors, managers and frontline teams. The role requires someone confident working autonomously, engaging with regulators, and managing competing priorities across a complex operational footprint.

This is an opportunity suited to an experienced OHS professional stepping beyond a traditional Coordinator role, with the capability to operate at a more senior level while remaining hands‐on.

Key responsibilities

* Lead and support audits, site inspections and compliance activities across multiple facilities
* Investigate incidents, near misses and non‐conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
* Partner with operational leaders to provide practical safety advice and ensure alignment with legislative and company requirements
* Engage with regulators (including WorkSafe) on reporting, audits and investigations
* Monitor compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations, NHVR, EPA and MHF licence requirements
* Support and improve the Business Management System (BMS) and broader safety management systems
* Coordinate documentation, compliance registers and incident reporting systems
* Contribute to risk assessments, hazard identification and continuous improvement initiatives
* Support Return to Work processes and broader safety and wellbeing initiatives
* Build strong relationships across operations, contributing to a "Zero Harm" safety culture

About you

* Proven experience in OHS & process safety in high‐risk environments, such as hazardous chemicals, fuel & mining
* Strong capability managing process‐related hazards and critical risks
* Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis capability
* Comfortable engaging with regulators and managing compliance obligations
* Demonstrated ability to influence and build relationships with operational stakeholders
* Experience working with safety management systems as well as audit and governance frameworks
* Ability to operate autonomously in a fast‐paced, multi‐site environment
* Experience with Dangerous Goods and National Heavy Vehicle legislation
* Ability to operate effectively within a Major Hazard Facility (MHF) environment
* Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
