We will also consider strong candidates located further afield, including Cairns to the north and Mackay to the south.Whether you're ready to step into a Principal role or looking to develop your skills in the field, there’s a place for you here—with clear career pathways, national project exposure, and a supportive, high-performing team.Key Responsibilities:Guide a broad range of projects, develop relationships with clients, and coordinate a team of EcologistsShow off your expertise in state and federal legislation, including EPBC Act, Vegetation Management Act, Nature Conservation Act, Planning Act, Offsets Act and associated guidelinesCompile, edit and review specialised reports for clients, and legislation driven applications, permits and reportingDevelop and submit proposals and tenders, guiding the Tender Team to ensure alignment with Biodiversity Australia’s standardsDrive business development with new and existing clientsCoordinate projects efficiently, ensuring they meet both internal and external client expectations in terms of timelines and financial considerationsProactively plan and manage resource needs, ensuring your team is equipped for growthManage ecological projects from initial scope and client liaison, field flora and fauna surveys, through to commercial delivery.Show off your expertise in legislation, particularly QLD legislation, including Vegetation Management Act, Nature Conservation Act, EPBC Act, and State and Federal offset guidelinesLeverage your networking skills to build and maintain strong relationships with clients across the resources, infrastructure, government, defence, residential, and aviation sectorsLead and mentor field Ecologists and Fauna team members and use your expert knowledge to support the Ecology divisionPreparation of Research and Technical Reports, Field Surveys, Impact Assessments, Analytics, Approvals and moreAssist the Tender Team with the preparation of submissions and proposals, utilising your technical writing expertiseConduct field ecology activities and be the knowledge expert in field ecology related activities throughout the divisionOpportunities may arise for you to work across the greater bring:10+ years of experience conducting ecology field assessments throughout QLDDemonstrated experience in managing ecological assessments including impact assessments, baseline assessments, and offset monitoringExperience in conducting ecological assessments as part of the federal and state development processExperienced in field-based ecological survey design methodologies and data collectionStrong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and negotiation skillsStrong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilityExperience coordinating staff including rostering and performance managementSenior Ecologist:Minimum 5 years postgraduate experience in a relevant fieldExperience maintaining professional relationships with clients from across the resources and infrastructure, government, defence, residential, or aviation sectorsWorking knowledge of consulting practice plus extensive project management skillsExperience managing ecological projects from initial scope and client liaison, field flora and fauna surveys through to commercial deliverySound knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and their applications as well as relevant industry standards and practicesPrevious Team Leading or Management experienceEcologist:Minimum 2-3 years postgraduate experience in a relevant field is desirableKnowledge of consulting practices.Demonstrated experience in preparing, submitting, and managing specialist biological and ecological assessment reports.All Levels:Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Zoology, and/or Natural Resource Management or equivalentAbility and willingness to undertake field work when requiredExperience in bushfire consulting will be highly regardedCertification in protected plant surveys is
