Engineering Lead – Digital
We are looking for a senior engineering leader who will guide a team of skilled engineers to deliver high-quality development and production support across Cbus' digital and cloud platforms.
The role involves designing and implementing technology solutions that meet business needs while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and industry best practices.
Overview
You'll demonstrate technical leadership by embedding CI/CD best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, maintaining strong awareness of system security processes—including early-stage scanning (SCA, SAST, DAST)—and ensuring all activities comply with current information-security standards.
Staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies, you will help shape the future of Cbus' digital delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert advice on application architecture best practices, lead technical design, and deliver estimations based on the existing digital stack and any new cloud services required.
Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of fit-for-purpose digital and cloud solutions through close collaboration with Digital, Data & Technology (DD&T), business stakeholders, and external partners, with a focus on long-term supportability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
Translate product owner requirements into fully developed, customer-ready functionality, while enabling and supporting production capabilities such as logging, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
Support testing activities across digital and cloud platforms, maintain accurate application documentation, and ensure robust change control through versioning and configuration management.
Monitor and report on system development progress, proactively manage exceptions and issues, and contribute to post-implementation reviews to embed continuous improvement into future delivery.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of platform utilisation and the associated costs of each solution to ensure cost-effective design and implementation.
Participate in recruitment and resourcing activities and lead & mentor team members to foster a high-performing, innovative team culture.

You will bring
Proven experience designing and developingcloud-native digital solutionswith diverse industry experience.
Strong background in leading engineering teams, mentoring and fostering growth.
Hands-on experience inREST APIsusing OpenAPI specifications and implementingMicroservices architecture.
Proven experience designing multi-step workflows usingAWS Step FunctionsandLambda(or equivalent cloud-native tools), implementing CI/CD best practices with platforms likeAzure DevOpsorJenkins, and applying expert-level branching and merging strategies for efficient,collaborative code management.
Strong understanding of testing boundaries with hands-on experience writing effective unit and integration tests, complemented by familiarity with logging best practices to support robust monitoring and troubleshooting in large-scale systems.
Deep understanding ofEvent Driven Architectureandsecure coding practiceswith awareness of OWASP Top 10 and cloud security best practices.
Experience working in an agile team utilising Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
Some added advantage: experience with large-scale digital transformation, headless architecture & Micro frontends, UI/UX knowledge, Domain Driven Design, Test Driven Development.
