The company is focused on enabling customers to generate, store and intelligently manage renewable energy. In Australia, the business is expanding its commercial and industrial solar and battery capability, supporting organisations to reduce energy costs, improve energy resilience and meet sustainability goals. As part of this growth, 1KOMMA5° is seeking a Commercial Project Estimator to own the technical and commercial bid process for complex commercial and industrial solar and battery opportunities. The role will be the single internal owner of pre-sales estimating and technical inputs for complex commercial opportunities. Acting as the key interface between Sales and Operations, the role will ensure proposals are technically robust, commercially competitive and delivered with clear margin accountability. You will take full ownership of pricing build-ups, tender interpretation and coordination of technical inputs, helping reduce handover risk while retaining valuable internal IP. The role will also play a critical part in establishing a scalable in-house pre-sales capability as the commercial business continues to grow. In this newly created in-house role you will lead end-to-end estimating for commercial solar and battery projects, interpreting RFPs and tenders to define scope, assumptions, inclusions and exclusions. Working closely with the sales team, you’ll shape bid strategy and translate solutions into accurate, deliverable proposals. You’ll produce concept designs, layouts and energy simulations, while collaborating with procurement and operations to ensure pricing reflects realistic supply, construction and programme assumptions. The role also involves engaging suppliers and subcontractors for pricing validation, building high-quality proposal submissions, and supporting client presentations for complex bids. Over time, you’ll help build and lead the pre-sales function as the commercial team expands. Key Responsibilities Own end-to-end cost estimating for commercial and industrial solar and battery projects Interpret tender and RFP documentation to identify scope requirements, assumptions, inclusions, exclusions and departures Collaborate with the sales team to determine bid strategy and key points of differentiation Translate agreed technical solutions into priced, deliverable proposals Create concept designs, layouts and energy output simulations Collaborate with Procurement and Operations to ensure supply, constructability and programme assumptions are realistic Engage suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and validate pricing inputs Create engaging, professional proposal and tender submission documents Attend client meetings and presentations for complex bids to explain technical solutions, assumptions and pricing rationale alongside the BDM who leads the commercial relationship Capture lessons learned from wins and losses to continuously improve pricing accuracy and competitiveness Over time, build and lead the pre-sales function as the commercial business grows Experience & Skills Experience in estimating, pre-sales engineering or commercial bidding within solar, battery, electrical, construction or adjacent infrastructure sectors Ability to interpret technical documentation and translate it into clear, priced commercial outcomes Engineering or technical background with strong technical acumen Ability to develop concept designs, engineering drawings and energy simulations Proven ability to own end-to-end cost estimates including interpretation of tender documentation, scope, assumptions, inclusions and exclusions Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance pricing competitiveness, margin and delivery risk Experience collaborating across sales, procurement and operational teams on complex project bids Personal Attributes High attention to detail with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable taking ownership and accountability Motivated by building capability and delivering tangible commercial impact in a growing business If you’re excited about shaping the future of large-scale commercial solar and battery projects in Australia while building a critical capability within a high-growth renewable energy company, we’d love to hear from you.
