Phillip Island Nature Parks is a leading conservation and sustainable tourism organisation, managing over 1,980 hectares of reserves, wetlands and woodlands on Milawul (Phillip Island). The organisation is home to globally recognised wildlife and cultural landscapes, with a clear purpose: to protect nature for wildlife and inspire people to act.
With a strong recovery post-COVID and a conservation strategy almost complete, the organisation is seeking an experienced executive to step into the role of General Manager - Conservation. Reporting directly to the CEO and working as part of the Executive Leadership Team, the General Manager will lead a portfolio including:
- Conservation leadership: overseeing wildlife, reserves, research and evidence-led conservation programs.
- Community impact: expanding outreach, education, volunteering and conservation campaigns to deepen community engagement.
- Partnerships and funding: building strong collaborations with research institutions, NGOs, funders and Government, while diversifying revenue through philanthropy and innovative models such as carbon offsets.
- Cultural leadership: embedding the aspirations of the Bunurong Traditional Owners and growing respectful and impactful engagement.
You will foster a positive workplace culture across a team of 40, and play a key role on the executive leadership team, collaborating across the organisation for better outcomes across the board.
To be successful in this role you will be a proven senior leader, ideally in conservation, zoos, botanic gardens, sustainability, or complex not-for-profit settings. You will bring:
- A proven ability to lead partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes and secure funding or in-kind support.
- Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to inspire teams and strengthen organisational capability.
- Knowledge of conservation, wildlife or ecosystem management, with the credibility to lead technical experts.
- Respect for and understanding of Aboriginal culture, with experience collaborating with Traditional Owners.
This is a rare opportunity to join one of Australia's most recognised conservation organisations and lead a portfolio of global visibility and community significance. The role is based on Phillip Island, with hybrid arrangements available, but a strong on-site presence is essential.
