Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS)

Location: Darwin or Nhulunbuy. Full‐time for a 3‐year fixed term.

The Organisation

Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is a not‐for‐profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) delivering holistic primary healthcare across East Arnhem Land. The organisation values community control, empowerment, cultural respect and community wellbeing, working closely with Yolngu people to improve health outcomes and community harmony in some of Australia's most remote regions.

The Role

The Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) is a senior executive leadership position responsible for building and sustaining a high‐quality, culturally safe medical workforce across Miwatj Health. The EDMS provides visible leadership to attract, develop and retain high‐quality General Practitioners and medical leaders, strengthening clinical governance, workforce capability and service delivery across geographically dispersed remote settings. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the EDMS contributes to organisational strategy and promotes Miwatj Health nationally as a leader in remote primary health care and Yolŋu self‐determination.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the attraction, recruitment and retention of high‐quality General Practitioners, reducing reliance on locums.
* Build and inspire a strong medical Community of Practice, fostering connection, learning and professional pride.
* Develop workforce capability through mentoring, performance development and succession planning.
* Strengthen sustainable workforce pipelines, including graduates, registrars and locally developed pathways.
* Provide leadership across a multidisciplinary workforce, including Aboriginal Health Practitioners.
* Contribute as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, shaping strategy and organisational direction.
* Build and leverage national and NT networks to enhance reputation, partnerships and workforce supply.
* Promote the organisation as a centre of excellence in culturally safe remote primary health care.
* Lead clinical governance, ensuring high‐quality, culturally safe care and compliance with standards.
* Manage clinical risk, incidents and public health responses, strengthening service integration and performance.
* Champion a Yolŋu‐led Aboriginal Health Practitioner Model of Care.
* Drive sustainable, innovative service delivery, integrating research, continuous improvement and resource stewardship.

Role Requirements
* Strong understanding of remote health delivery in the Northern Territory.
* Understanding of Aboriginal community control and culturally safe clinical practice.
* Eligibility for full registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner without restriction.
* Postgraduate qualifications in leadership, management or public health (desirable).
* Fellowship or membership of a relevant professional college or faculty (desirable).
Salary and Benefits

A base salary of $330,000 plus super. Standard FBT exemption limits apply: $15,900 for salary sacrificing per FBT year and $2,800 in meal and entertainment benefits per FBT year. The position receives 6 weeks' annual leave and a 1‐week Christmas shutdown. Generous professional development support and inclusive, community‐centred workplace culture are also provided.
