This is a rare in-house role, offering genuine variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly contribute to the growth and prosperity of one of Australia's most naturally beautiful and rapidly developing regions.

Your new role

Working closely with the General Counsel, this position will see you support the legal needs of major capital works and land-based infrastructure projects, guiding internal teams and helping shape practical legal frameworks that underpin long-term regional investment.

This is a broad, hands-on role with real influence - perfect for a capable, adaptable lawyer looking to step into a business-partnering legal role that makes a meaningful difference.

Key responsibilities include:

* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including:

* Construction contracts (AS standard forms)

* Procurement, services, and consultancy agreements

* Leases, licences, and property acquisition contracts

* Managing land access and easement arrangements, and supporting documentation for property transactions

* Providing clear, business-friendly legal advice to project managers, engineers, and executives

* Supporting land dealings, project governance and risk management activities

* Liaising with external legal advisers, regulators, and contractors as needed

What you'll need to succeed

* A Bachelor of Laws and current Australian practising certificate

* At least 5 years' post-admission experience (PQE), ideally in infrastructure, construction, property or commercial law

* Proven ability to draft and negotiate a broad range of contracts

* Comfort operating in a fast-paced, unstructured environment with minimal supervision

* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate clearly with non-legal stakeholders

* A practical, solutions-oriented mindset with the confidence to work autonomously and collaboratively.

* Experience in a government, utilities, or major project setting will be highly regarded, though not essential.

What you'll get in return

* Hybrid working - true flexibility across Launceston or Hobart with remote options
* Meaningful work - be part of publicly significant infrastructure and land projects that will shape Tasmania's future
* Autonomy and breadt h - enjoy a varied legal workload with influence and visibility
* Supportive culture - work alongside a values-driven General Counsel who supports collaboration and trust
* Exceptional lifestyle - Escape the city grind and enjoy Tasmania's unmatched blend of natural beauty, short commutes, thriving regional culture, and affordable living. Whether you're based in Launceston, Hobart, or relocating to Tasmania for the first time, this role offers the perfect balance of career impact and lifestyle quality.
