Legal Counsel to join a high-performing, government-owned organisation delivering large-scale infrastructure and development projects across Tasmania.

Your new role
Working closely with the General Counsel, this position will see you support the legal needs of major capital works and land-based infrastructure projects, guiding internal teams and helping shape practical legal frameworks that underpin long-term regional investment.
This is a broad, hands-on role with real influence - perfect for a capable, adaptable lawyer looking to step into a business-partnering legal role that makes a meaningful difference.
Key responsibilities include:
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, including:
* Construction contracts (AS standard forms)
* Procurement, services, and consultancy agreements
* Leases, licences, and property acquisition contracts
* Managing land access and easement arrangements, and supporting documentation for property transactions
* Providing clear, business-friendly legal advice to project managers, engineers, and executives
* Supporting land dealings, project governance and risk management activities
* Liaising with external legal advisers, regulators, and contractors as needed
What you'll need to succeed
* A Bachelor of Laws and current Australian practising certificate
* At least 5 years' post-admission experience (PQE), ideally in infrastructure, construction, property or commercial law
* Proven ability to draft and negotiate a broad range of contracts
* Comfort operating in a fast-paced, unstructured environment with minimal supervision
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate clearly with non-legal stakeholders
* A practical, solutions-oriented mindset with the confidence to work autonomously and collaboratively.
* Experience in a government, utilities, or major project setting will be highly regarded, though not essential.
