SAP Technical Project Manager Contract with Local Gov

You'll be joining one of Australia's largest local government organisations, supporting a population of nearly 1.2 million people across more than 1300km². With multi‑billion‑dollar annual expenditure and a significant asset base, this organisation delivers a broad and diverse range of services including public transport, infrastructure, environmental management, disaster response, cultural facilities, recreation, and regulatory services.
A major ERP transformation is underway to modernise systems, uplift digital capability, improve service delivery, and support long-term organisational strategy. This program will implement a modern SAP S/4HANA cloud environment to streamline processes, integrate operations, and provide more effective service and asset management capabilities.
Your new role
As the Technical Project Manager, you will lead the end‑to‑end technical delivery of the new SAP S/4HANA environment as part of this large-scale ERP transformation.
Your role will focus on planning, coordinating, and overseeing the technical design, integration, infrastructure readiness, and cutover required to transition from legacy SAP ECC and related systems to a modern S/4HANA RISE, Private Cloud Edition landscape.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading all technical delivery activities across architecture, integration, configuration, and platform readiness
Managing risks, issues, dependencies, quality assurance, and technical governance
Developing and maintaining technical project schedules aligned to program milestones
Working closely with program leadership, internal IT teams, business stakeholders, and external delivery partners
Supporting end-to-end testing and ensuring technical go-live readiness
Guiding post-go-live stabilisation and transition to business-as-usual support
Providing leadership, direction, and mentoring to technical teams
Ensuring clear communication across technical and non‑technical audiences
You will report directly to the Core Technical Program Manager and play a pivotal role in one of the organisation's most significant technology transformations.
What you'll need to succeed
Technical Expertise
10+ years' experience delivering large-scale SAP technical programs, ideally including S/4HANA
Strong knowledge of SAP architecture, integration, data migration and infrastructure
Experience with SAP Activate Methodology and agile delivery frameworks
Background in SAP RISE, multi-release SAP transformations, and SuccessFactors/Employee Central
Understanding of SAP SolMan, CHaRM, transport management, and enterprise release practices
Experience in platform services sourcing, vendor management and service agreements
Experience with large infrastructure implementation projects
Leadership & Delivery Capability
Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven success working with cross-functional, distributed and virtual teams
Strong documentation and executive reporting skills
High organisational capability in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Strong problem-solving, decision-making and issue-resolution skills
High emotional intelligence, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments
