Culturally Safe Support Specialist
This role provides an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children, young people and their families. As a Culturally Safe Support Specialist, you will work collaboratively with government departments, schools, health services, and community agencies to deliver integrated services.
You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments to develop, implement, and review safety and support plans that address both strengths and areas of risk using a cultural safe lens. You will also provide culturally appropriate practice, protocols and community engagement to meet the needs of clients and their families.
The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent lived experience. They will have experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other diverse groups.
About this Role
This role is part of our Pathways to Safety and Support program, which provides effective intervention for children, young people and their families with problematic and harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB). You will work closely with team members to understand how to provide culturally appropriate and safe support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
* You will provide culturally appropriate practice, protocols and community engagement to meet the needs of clients and their families.
* You will conduct comprehensive assessments to develop, implement, and review safety and support plans that address both strengths and areas of risk using a cultural safe lens.
* You will work collaboratively with government departments, schools, health services, and community agencies to deliver integrated services.
* You will identify and respond to risks, including escalating concerns and making child protection reports where necessary.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
* A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent lived experience.
* Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other diverse groups.
* Knowledge of issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families, and children.
* Strong understanding of problematic and harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB) in children and young people, including associated risks and vulnerabilities.
* Demonstrated experience supporting children, young people, and families, particularly in child protection or similar settings.
* Excellent communication, assessment, and case planning skills, with a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach.
* A current driver's license.
