Primary objective
Lead a range of geoscience projects to build knowledge of the geology and resource potential of the Northern Territory
Context statement
The purpose of the Northern Territory Geological Survey is to attract, de-risk and support investment in resource exploration and
development in the Territory, and to provide geoscience-based advice to government and the community. The Manager Basin Geoscience
role will contribute their technical expertise and provide leadership and management to a diverse team delivering a range of
multidisciplinary geoscience projects to improve understanding and effectively deliver information on the regional geological framework
and energy resource potential of the onshore basins of the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide expertise, leadership and management to teams conducting geoscience framework and energy systems studies on the
onshore basins of the Northern Territory.
2. Drive team goals, strategies and work plans that support the organisation's objectives and ensure that projects remain focused,
effective, and meet timeframes.
3. Provide support to the Director Regional Geoscience in strategic planning, business development, management and reporting, to
meet organisational goals.
4. Maintain currency of geoscientific knowledge and facilitate specialist skill development within the team to ensure provision of high-
quality advice.
5. Communicate effectively to a broad audience across a variety of channels, build and support effective working relationships, negotiate
and problem solve effectively to achieve timely outcomes.
6. Build and maintain networks to facilitate two-way knowledge transfer with peers and stakeholders to improve outcomes.
1. Ensure the acquisition, processing and dissemination of geoscientific data and information by team members adheres to data
governance and organisational reporting standards.
8. Deliver effective budget, contract and procurement and collaboration management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Honours or higher degree in geoscience from a recognised university.
1. Demonstrated experience in designing, leading and delivering team-based regional-scale, multidisciplinary geological framework
and/or energy systems studies that deliver on identified outputs and outcomes.
3. Demonstrated experience in acquisition, QA/QC and processing of geoscientific data, and integration in a GIS environment.
4. Demonstrated project leadership and management experience including design, reporting, timely delivery, and budget management.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to a technical and non-technical audience and a demonstrated ability to write and
review evidence-based scientific reports.
6. Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to drive effective team outcomes, and to actively cultivate productive working
relationships, while building and maintaining internal and external networks
1. Demonstrated capability to provide strategic input and support to senior executive management in developing geoscientific and skills
development programs to ensure a dynamic and flexible organisation.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated ability and understanding of the requirements and standards necessary to perform geological fieldwork effectively in
remote areas and oversee the development of, and adherence to, safety procedures.
2. Experience in procurement and contract management processes.
3. Knowledge of the geology, energy and/or mineral resources of the Northern Territory
