About the Role
The Development Engineer is responsible for providing expert engineering advice for development applications and approving construction plans to ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and community expectations.
This role requires a high degree of autonomy and minimal supervision, making it ideal for a self-motivated professional.
Reporting to the Team Leader Development Engineering, your core responsibilities will be:
Formulate engineering conditions for development proposals to safeguard the integrity of the Shire's infrastructure and environment.
Approve construction plans for development works, ensuring compliance with planning permit conditions and engineering standards.
Provide engineering advice for new developments, including drainage systems, land stability, and traffic issues.
Respond to customer service enquiries and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
Manage security monies and ensure timely completion of development projects.
Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing and updating the unit's templates and procedures.
About You
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual with the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
A degree in civil engineering or an approved equivalent, meeting the requirements of the Professional Engineers Registration Act ****.
A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in local government or private industry.
Strong knowledge of civil engineering design, including drainage systems, retaining structures, and traffic management.
High-level verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
Proven ability to manage workload effectively, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions.

The Mornington Peninsula is located just over an hour's drive away from the city, on Melbourne's 'doorstep', and is often described as Melbourne's playground.
It is the most popular informal recreation area in Victoria.
The peninsula is a 720 square kilometre boot-shaped promontory separating two contrasting bays: Port Phillip and Western Port.
