About the Opportunity
NSW Health Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Chemical Pathology team at the John Hunter Hospital. The laboratory serves a wide community with specialties including trauma, obstetrics, cardiology, transplant, haematology and oncology for all ages.
You will be part of a dynamic team of technicians and scientists, applying the RITE values to serve our community. The successful candidate will perform a range of Chemical Pathology laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) in a fast-paced, multitasking environment. In addition to technical tasks, you will prepare materials and maintain equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures, and protocols across Chemical Pathology, Toxicology, and RIA laboratories.

Responsibilities
* Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) following established methods and procedures.
* Prepare materials and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.
* Support other laboratory duties as required, ensuring quality and compliance across Chemical Pathology, Toxicology and RIA laboratories.
* Apply established principles to investigate and resolve general and complex laboratory issues.
* Commit to quality management and continuous improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
* Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in pathology services within a relevant discipline, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.
* Ability to work responsibly and efficiently, managing competing priorities to meet deadlines.
* Strong teamwork skills whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes.
* Customer focused approach with well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including communication with customers, patients and clinical laboratory staff.
* Initiative, problem solving and analytical skills; ability to apply established principles and investigate and resolve issues within the laboratory environment.
* Commitment to quality management principles, continuous quality improvement and ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities.
* Valid working rights in Australia for the entire appointment duration.
