Division/Section: Infrastructure and Operations / Property Fleet and Emergency Management

Position Type: Permanent Full Time (9 day fortnight, 38 hours/week)

Salary Range: Base Salary $99,907 per annum + super, plus overtime and penalty rates dependent on work performed. Additional entitlements and overtime do not form part of the advertised base salary

Location: Fleet Services - Bohle, Townsville

Take charge of a busy fleet workshop where your hands-on skills and leadership actually matter.

In this role, you’ll keep our small plant and fleet running efficiently by diagnosing, repairing and servicing equipment, coaching apprentices and trades, and setting the standard for safety, productivity and quality work. You’ll plan and coordinate people, parts and tools to hit maintenance schedules and capital works targets, advise management on fleet reliability and spares, and step up into Team Leader duties when required.

Qualifications and Experience

Our ideal candidate will have:

* Trade Certificate – Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) with considerable technical, diagnostic and analytical skills and experience in the service and repair of vehicles, plant, trucks and equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic, auto electrical, air-conditioning systems and minor welding repairs’. Substantial experience in the discipline of mechanical engineering / automotive trades is desirable.
* Current “C” class driver’s license, “HR” class driver’s license (desirable).
* Sound knowledge of and the ability to implement modern practices relevant to workshop activities and fleet maintenance procedures, including maintenance of a safe work environment, safe workspace and practices, plant equipment and material usage.
* Experience in a leadership role, coordinating and supervising trades staff and/or contractors and maintaining collaborative workplace interactions.
* Intermediate computer literacy skills (or the ability to acquire) relevant to Outlook, Word, Excel, Council Business Management Systems and Kronos Workforce Timekeeper applications.
* Good interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills including sound written and numeracy skills.
* Well-developed time management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks, assess and negotiate project timeframes.
