About the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS)
The RFDS (Queensland Section) isdeeplyintegrated in rural and remote Queensland, providingessential fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) General Practitioner (GP) services to a number of North West, Central West andFar North communities. In many of these areas, the RFDS performs the role of the local doctor, offering consistent, life-spanning healthcare to individuals andfamilies.
Last financial year, we delivered more than 200 occasions of care each day, including over 13,000 patient transfers and 24,760 GP and nurse clinic consultations.
Yourrole willoffer a wide scope of practice withboth chronic andacute presentations. This will provideyou with thechance to thrive in a dynamic environment, supported by anetwork ofaeromedical and telehealth medical officers, nurses and mental health workers,empoweringyou to deliver comprehensive patient care.
Your Role
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are invited for Primary Health Care (PHC)Medical Officers who are skilled, compassionate, and adventurous to join our incredible front-line team. Experience a rewarding and unique professional challenge as you provide invaluable GP/PHC services to regional, rural and remote Queenslanders.
This position is offered as an initial six‐month contract delivering essential PHC services in a FIFO capacity to communities in Central Western Queensland. You will work and travel from Monday-Friday.
The part‐time arrangement, is5.5 shifts per month (0.3438 FTE) of clinical,travel and administrative time. It is structured as one week of face to face clinics, clinical administration the following week and ideally some telehealth shifts in the other three weeks.
Your roster will be:
* Tuesday – Thursday: Working in a GP clinic accompanied by our RFDS Nurses
* Friday: 1⁄2 day clinical administration and 1⁄2 day travel home
* An additional day of administration will be worked the following week and can be completed from home
* Telehealth shifts can be worked in addition to this roster and FTE (these can be worked at home or via your closest base)

As a skilled PHC Medical Officer, you will:
* Deliver comprehensive clinical care, including history taking, examination, decision‐making, diagnostics, procedures, and referrals
* Manage acute and emergent presentations, providing stabilisation until retrieval services arrive
* Provide telehealth consultations via phone, video or email to support patient access and continuity of care
* Collaborate with nurses, allied health and other providers to ensure coordinated, integrated patient care
* Deliver culturally safe care across diverse service areas, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, child and family health, women's health, chronic disease management, health promotion and early intervention programs.
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you should have:
* Registration with AHPRA as Medical Practitioner
* Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM
* Current Advanced Life Support (ALS 1)
* 3-7 years of relevant experience
* Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary medical practice in the PHC environment
* Some GP emergency experience
* Ability to meet Medical Officer - General Practice credentialing requirements
* Previous experience in rural and remote health delivery and emergency medicine
* Respectful understanding of cultural diversity, including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health.

Before commencement, successful candidates must undergo a drug and alcohol test and possibly a medical assessment. You must possess a valid, unrestricted Driver's Licence and be able to obtain an ASIC Card. Additionally, candidates must complete the RFDS and Queensland Health credentialing process successfully.
