The Opportunity
Join WSP's growing team and play a key role in shaping future infrastructure across our communities. In this role, you will lead the planning, investigation and concept development of major capital projects, transforming early ideas into practical, buildable solutions. You will also prepare detailed designs for roads, drainage and a broad range of civil infrastructure, delivering high‐quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets as part of our established Investigations and Design process.
Main Activities and Responsibilities
1. Comply with all role specific SHEQ obligations as detailed in the relevant RACI matrix.
2. Promote the continual improvement of best practice OHS&E and Quality systems and behaviours.
3. Coach others in the identification and management of ethical issues associated with area of work or practice area.
4. Actively work towards chartered status.
5. Proactively build effective networks and industry relationships to gain cooperation in meeting business and client outcomes
6. Participation in company development initiative, such as the Technical Associate Program and/or PANs.
7. Seek information to understand client needs and effectively anticipate and meet client needs and encourage client focus in colleagues including coordination with other disciplines.
8. Manage and monitor the technical quality of work performed by the project design team.
9. Develop, and review engineering drawings and reports.
10. Incorporates Road Safety and Design Philosophy principles into designs.
11. Monitors task-based scope, time and cost management systems. Coaches' others in managing competing demands.
12. Provide technical input on multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
13. Mentor junior designers in technical, project delivery and client relationships.
14. Work collaboratively with team including large scale multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
15. Recognise the achievements and success of individuals and the team
Qualifications (Minimum and Desirable)
16. Associate degree (Civil Engineering) or Equivalent.
Experience, skills and organisational knowledge
17. Typically, 10-15 years' experience in a consultancy environment with experience in road design, drainage services or other civil engineering design.
18. Extensive knowledge of relevant industry related Australian Standards, local Road Authority Standards and other road and civil design standards with the ability to interpret, apply and challenge as appropriate.
19. High level use and understanding of 2D and 3D CADD software and 3D modelling and how it applies to transport infrastructure.
20. Able to draw upon previous project experience to generate alternate solutions, conduct analysis of options and determine best outcomes.
21. High level skills in applying safety in design practices and processes with particular emphasis on road safety outcomes.
22. Exposure to different disciplines and project models with the ability to apply on a diverse range of design projects.
23. Competent in monitoring and managing the scope of projects tasks of varying complexity and size.
24. Highly skilled in the preparation and review of high level and complex technical design documentation.
25. Contributes to high quality proposals and pursuits.
26. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
27. Built technical capability of others (training & mentoring) and transferred technical expertise within the organisation.
28. Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
