Auto Electrician
7/7 Roster | Permanent Full Time | Residential based in Broken Hill, NSW
Broken Hill Mines is seeking a qualified and safety-focused Auto-Electrical Tradesperson to join our Mobile Maintenance team on a permanent 7/7 roster. This role is key to delivering planned and reactive maintenance across our underground mobile equipment fleet, ensuring availability targets are met while safety, environmental and cost outcomes are effectively managed.
About the Role
Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Shift Supervisor, you will carry out high-quality preventive and corrective maintenance on underground mobile equipment. You will work closely with the broader maintenance team to diagnose faults, repair equipment and support continuous improvement in reliability, safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out servicing, maintenance and fault finding on underground mobile equipment
* Complete statutory inspections and mechanical checks in line with site and legislative requirements
* Diagnose and repair electrical faults, wiring systems and components
* Assist with the development and execution of preventative maintenance schedules
* Accurately record work orders, service sheets, parts usage and maintenance history in Pronto
* Provide detailed feedback and failure analysis to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor
* Maintain high housekeeping standards in all work areas
* Participate in pre-starts, handovers, safety interactions and toolbox meetings
* Demonstrate respect for company tooling and promptly report damaged equipment
* Maintain effective communication across shifts and with other underground departments
* Actively participate in health and safety meetings and initiatives
* Comply with company policies, procedures, PPE requirements and safe work practices
* Identify, report and manage hazards and risks in the workplace
* Support team members through collaboration, mentoring and on-the-job coaching where required
* Work constructively with production and maintenance teams to achieve site targets
What You'll Bring
* Trade qualification as an Auto-Electrician (dual trade Diesel Fitter highly regarded)
* Current Australian Driver's Licence (manual)
* Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in underground mining
* Experience working on heavy underground mobile equipment, including Atlas Copco and Sandvik fleets (advantageous)
* Strong diagnostic, fault-finding and problem-solving skills
* High standard of workmanship and attention to detail
* Ability to work under pressure with strong time management skills
* Competency using Pronto, Microsoft Office or similar systems
* Full Australian work rights

The Rasp Mine is an operating silver-lead-zinc mine in Broken Hill, with a large Mineral Resource and a 750,000tpa processing plant. The mine has operated for over 120 years, producing zinc and lead concentrates sold globally. The Pinnacles Mine, situated 15km southwest of Broken Hill, is known for containing one of the area's highest-grade and shallowest silver-zinc-lead deposits. Despite being largely undeveloped, small-scale historical mining has occurred over the past 120 years.
