Position Information
Callaghan College is a multi-campus college in the urban regional location of Newcastle NSW, on the lands of the Awabakal people. Wallsend Campus (Years 7-10), Waratah Campus (Years 7-10) and Jesmond Senior Campus (Years 11-12) are united as we collaborate to empower all learners from our diverse community. Collectively, we provide the most extensive curriculum in the Hunter including a breadth of opportunities; academic, vocational and extra-curricular. Callaghan is recognised nationally for its integration of technology to support future focused learning. We create lifelong learning through leading a strong and vibrant partnership with the Callaghan Education Pathways (including 16 partner primary schools), deep connection with Callaghan LAECG, a partnership with our Callaghan College P&C, an academic partnership with the University of Newcastle and industry partnerships with a range of innovative enterprises.
Waratah Campus is one of the 7-10 campuses that make up Callaghan College. We are a comprehensive secondary school with a student population of 860, which has been steadily increasing in recent years. We are an inclusive environment with nine Special Education classes. Our campus community is culturally and linguistically diverse, including 29% of students with a non-English-speaking background. 15% of students at Waratah Campus identify as having an Aboriginal background. Students participate in a wide range of learning experiences in the pursuit of academic excellence. A strong focus on literacy, numeracy and High Potential and Gifted strategies, including our Aspire program. Staff actively prepare our Stage 5 students for the Higher School Certificate and engage in professional learning around Stage 6 requirements with our Senior Campus staff.

* High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community.
* Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning.
* Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning.
* Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2026.
