The Chief Legal Officer role at TMR presents an exciting opportunity for a skilled legal professional to lead a multi-functional branch consisting of the legal, prosecutions, right to information, privacy, and complaints management reporting teams. As a member of the Corporate Leadership team, the Chief Legal Officer will report to the Deputy Director-General and be responsible for strategically leading and coordinating the activities and performance of specialised teams. This position requires a candidate who possesses exceptional strategic leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of the legal landscape.
Skills
* provide strategic, independent legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team on high-risk, complex and sensitive matters
* lead the Legal, Information Access and Prosecutions Branch to develop and maintain high-level expertise in key areas including statutory interpretation, intellectual property, commercial, contracts; workplace, constitutional and administrative law, and litigation that fosters a culture aligned with the Public Sector values to promote professional growth and effective performance management
* implement modern digital processes, practices, and data analytics to enhance operational efficiency and the performance of the branch
* develop and implement frameworks and guidelines for effective management of legal and legislative services, and proactive strategies for early intervention in complex, sensitive and litigious matters
* provide authoritative, strategic, and independent advice on the development, review and implementation of legislative reforms to ensure alignment with government policies and legal framework
* oversee the strategic procurement of external legal services, maintaining strong relationships with providers to ensure quality and value.
Skills/Experience
* 10+ years' post-admission experience (PAE), including demonstrated oversight and leadership of a legal function in a General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer, Head of Legal or equivalent role
* experience advising government clients or working within a government setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of public sector operations and the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous and political environments
* strong, demonstrable values-based leadership skills to manage and develop a large, diverse workforce, building high-performing functions that deliver customer-centric services and quality outcomes
* superior technical legal knowledge and commercial acumen and the ability to provide high-level strategic and operational advice on a wide range of complex legal and legislative issues
* exceptional communication and engagement skills to establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
* possess outstanding analytical and conceptual abilities to identify and address complex issues, as well as to develop comprehensive plans and implement and evaluate improvement strategies for the branch, focusing on creating efficiencies and enhancing the effectiveness of systems, processes, and procedures
* displays sound judgement, values integrity, is agile, adaptable and is outcome focused.
