Where you will be working:

Central Coast Local Health District offers an Integrated Training Program (ITP), for medical officers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G), based at Gosford Hospital. The program satisfies the requirements of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), for Membership and Fellowship. This position involves general experience in labour ward management and gynaecology operating. Provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. The department also offers support and guidance for the completion of RANZCOG's Certificate of Women's Health (CWH).

Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.

Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services. Another development is the Wyong Women's Centre, due for completion at the end of 2024. This will provide more accommodation for antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics. In addition, there will be two procedure rooms for more outpatient procedures to be performed,

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

What you'll be doing

* The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment.
* Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
* You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford, Wyong, Woy Woy and Long Jetty Hospitals.
* Provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation.

Responsibilities include:

* Operate as primary surgeon or as a surgical assistant with advanced gynaecological procedures (Endoscopic, Pelvic organ prolapse & Urinary incontinence surgery), in both public and private sectors.
* This position will be mixed Obstetrics & Gynaecology role.
* Possible Surgical opportunities to train in robotic gynaecological procedures (depending if the role is predominantly Gynaecology focused)
* Taking a leadership role in coordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to his / her Unit within the public health organisation and ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical record.
* The day-to-day assessment and management of the patients in his/her Unit, communicating with them and their family the nature of their condition and its treatment.
* Contribute to research projects to contribute to scholarly knowledge that leads to better patient outcomes and to develop skills and understanding of the quality research including research methods, ethics, managing conflict of interest, obtaining informed consent, recruiting and supervising participants, and understanding scientific principles.
* Communicating and coordinating care with their team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate, then arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community-based care modalities.
* All decisions concerning the patient(s) in consultation with their immediate supervisor and team.
* Participation in the after-hours roster.

* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
* Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment, and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
* Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
* Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
* Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
