Purpose of the Position
Provide Psychiatry Consultation Liaison services to support clinical management and treatment of inpatients within the Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Geriatric Units at Mona Vale Hospital; the Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) and Northern Beaches Community Mental Health Service (NBCMHS) outpatients clinics at Brookvale Community Health Centre (BCHC).
Undertaking comprehensive mental health assessments on patients referred for general Consultation Liaison. This allows early identification of any underlying psychiatric or substance use disorder that may have contributed to injuries and illnesses to be identified and appropriately managed as well as identification and treatment of acute stress reactions and early identification and treatment for any emerging psychiatric conditions e.g. post-traumatic stress disorder, depression or anxiety disorders.
The position will Provide Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service of high quality and timely clinical consultation for patients referred by the generalist services at Mona Vale Hospital and Manly AYAH and outpatient Clinics at Brookvale /Mona Vale Community Health Centre. Participate in the in hours back up roster for mental health services across NBCMHS, and the out of hours on call roster for Psychiatry Specialists for NBCMHS.
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.
Selection Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
* Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
* Sound clinical knowledge in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
* Demonstrated clinical mental health experience and expert knowledge of clinical practice guidelines relating to the psychiatric assessment and management of the older person, adult and youth population groups, together with a demonstrated interest and experience in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry in general hospital settings and community settings
* Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Psychiatry Consultant, including an interest in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry including interest in improvement of clinical governance of mental health services, including quality improvement methodologies, experience or willingness to participate in clinical research and a commitment to fostering this interest in medical staff and other clinicians
* High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management, and delivery of evidence-based best practice in the clinical domain.
* Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on‐call rosters already existing or established.
