The Company
A well‑established, mid‑sized Australian environmental solutions specialist with a strong track record delivering high‑quality water and sludge treatment outcomes on complex construction, resources and infrastructure projects nationwide. Known for technical depth, agility and a genuinely hands‑on culture, they consistently deliver safe, compliant and commercially successful results for tier‑one clients.
The Role
This is a senior operational leadership position reporting directly to the Water Services Manager. You will be the company's "go‑to" person in the field – living on site, leading from the front and owning the day‑to‑day performance of water and sludge treatment plants across multiple concurrent projects.
This is NOT an office job. You'll be physically on site every day, optimising plants, fixing issues as they happen, directing crews and being the primary client interface.
Key Responsibilities
* Hands‑on leadership of water and sludge treatment operations from setup to demobilisation
* Real‑time troubleshooting (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical & process)
* Optimising treatment performance to hit production, compliance and cost targets
* Leading and mentoring site crews and supervisors with practical, no‑nonsense guidance
* Primary on‑site client contact – building trust and managing expectations under pressure
* Coordinating labour, subcontractors, plant and equipment
* Ensuring strict compliance with discharge limits, EHSQ and client standards
* Driving commercial outcomes – monitoring costs, production rates and supporting accurate invoicing
About You
* Extensive hands‑on operating experience with water or wastewater treatment systems (construction / mine / industrial sites)
* Strong mechanical aptitude – you've spent years around pumps, valves, instrumentation, DAFs, clarifiers, filtration, pH correction, dewatering etc.
* Proven leadership of site‑based operational teams
* Excellent client‑facing skills and commercial awareness
* Current White Card & driver's licence
* Willing and able to travel extensively (FIFO/DIDO/rostered sites) and work flexible hours
Highly Regarded
* Trade or tertiary qualifications (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental or similar)
* Experience commissioning and optimising temporary / modular treatment plants
* Solid skills in Excel and basic project reporting
If you're a seasoned water treatment professional who still loves being on the tools, leading by example and making a real difference every single day, this is a rare opportunity to step into a true leadership role with an employer that genuinely values practical expertise.
