Job Description – Community Officer (Part-Time, 12-Month Contract)
Position Title: Community Officer
Reports To: Program Manager / General Manager, Townsville Fire Ltd
Employment Type: Part-Time, Fixed Term (15 hours per week, 12-month contract)
Position Purpose
The Community Officer will support the Pathways to Empowerment program, funded
by the Youth Justice Kickstarter Grant. Working closely with the Program Manager, the
role assists in the delivery of mentoring, workshops, and community engagement
activities for at-risk young people aged 10–17. This part-time position focuses on
program delivery and participant support, with administrative and reporting tasks
scaled to match the reduced hours.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support & Delivery
Assist in delivering mentoring sessions, life skills workshops, and sports-based
activities.
Provide positive role modelling and supportive engagement with participants.
Help with logistics such as venue setup, transport coordination, and preparation of
program resources.
Support cultural safety practices in all activities.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
Build supportive relationships with young people, families, and partner
organisations.
Reporting & Administration
Collect attendance data and basic participant feedback for program reporting.
Maintain accurate records of sessions, participants, and engagement activities.
Support compliance requirements (e.g. Blue Cards, risk procedures) under the guidance
of the Program Manager.
Selection Criteria
Essential
Experience engaging with young people, ideally those at risk or disengaged.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
Awareness of cultural safety, with experience engaging with Aboriginal, Torres Strait
Islander, and culturally diverse communities.
Ability to work flexibly within a small team environment.
Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to obtain.
Current driver's licence.
Desirable
Previous experience in youth programs, community work, or sports-based engagement.
Key Details
Hours: 15 hours per week (flexible across weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends).
Contract Term: 12 months
Salary: $32–$36 per hour (plus super, pro-rata leave entitlements).
