Senior Signalling Design Engineer
to provide technical expertise relating to Signalling designs. You’ll work alongside people who show up with ownership, passion, and dedication — because they know what’s at stake: the journey home.
Your role, your impact
Provide senior‑level technical expertise across the full lifecycle of signalling design delivery.
Review and lead signalling concept, preliminary and detailed design deliverables, including URS, TRS, signalling functional specifications, signalling plans, train notices, bonding plans, object controller bit lists, power calculations, conventional and ETCS Level 2 control tables, ETCS Level 2 and interfacing circuit designs, interface documentation, and staging and deployment strategies.
Ensure compliance with Queensland Rail standards, principles and procedures.
Identify technical risks and develop effective, innovative signalling solutions.
Mentor and guide the design team during the development of signalling designs.
Participate in technical investigations as required, prepare draft technical investigation reports and technical specifications.
Liaise with suppliers, project, construction, test and commissioning teams where required.
Contribute to training, accreditation and capability uplift within the QLD signalling team.
Provide expert technical input to tender and bid development activities.
You’ll work with sharp, committed teams across Alstom, working alongside QLD site‑based teams, the CBI Centre of Excellence in Melbourne, ETCS and interlocking teams across ANZ and India, and the Main Line Platform team in Europe — solving complex challenges that shape the future of mobility.
What you bring

A tertiary qualification in Engineering.
Registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
Queensland Rail Senior Signal Design Engineer competency – Level 3.
Significant years’ experience in Queensland signalling roles, including working to QR principles and practices.
Proven experience producing and reviewing Queensland Rail‑compliant signalling designs.
Strong knowledge of QR standards, procedures, processes and requirements.
Hands‑on experience with relay‑based, PBI and computer‑based interlockings.
How success is measured
Project QCD (Quality, Cost and Delivery) commitment.
On‑time-delivery for IXL deliverables according to project planning and Document Master List (DML) (EDP - Engineering Delivery Performance).
Defect detected on IXL (DQI - Delivery Quality Indicator).
Cooperation and reactivity to support Root Cause Analysis Identification of contract variations (through traceability & coverage of requirements).
Contribution to peer reviews and teamwork.
