About the Role
The Driller plays a key role in overseeing and operating drilling equipment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and productivity while managing the crew, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Lead drill rig and site moves, ensuring optimal positioning for efficiency and safety.
Operate and maintain drill rig systems and equipment efficiently.
Set up and dismantle drilling equipment and machinery, ensuring readiness for operation.
Perform routine and scheduled maintenance to minimize downtime, including greasing, checking fluid levels, and cleaning the rig.
Report any mechanical defects or anomalies to the Drill Rig Supervisor.
Take responsibility for the health, safety, and performance of the drill crew.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including correct PPE use and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Identify and address hazards or risks during daily operations.
Refuel and restock the drill rig for the next crew at handover.
Schedule and complete maintenance in line with the drilling cycle or shift change to maximize efficiency.
Monitor drilling parameters (pressure, depth, weight, etc.) to ensure smooth operation.
Record operational data, including drilling depth, rate of penetration, and any anomalies.
Complete and submit consumable orders each weekend before COB Sunday.
Accurately complete and submit all required documentation, including daily PLODs.
Manage the drill rig budget effectively.
Identify and report initiatives to improve safety, productivity, and efficiency.
Maintain and update all compliance registers for the drill rig.
Support the development and implementation of organizational procedures and processes.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping around the drill pad and work areas at all times.
Maintain focus on time utilization and operational efficiency.
Mentor and guide drill crew members to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Qualifications and Criteria
Relevant trade qualifications (Certificate III or IV in Drilling Operations) – desirable
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience working in a similar role - preferred
Valid Manual Driver's Licence (HR class)
National Police Check (issued within the last 12 months)
Current CPR Certificate (issued within the last 12 months)
Current First Aid Certificate (issued within the last 2 years)
4WD Group 1 Certificate (issued within the last 2 years)
Fire Extinguisher Training Certificate (issued within the last 2 years) – preferred
Working Safely at Heights Certificate (issued within the last 2 years) – preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude
Proven ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety procedures
Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team
Good problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Salary range : $90,000 – $130,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
