Primary objective
Identify, promote and pursue defence industry opportunities in order to maximise economic benefit for the Northern Territory. Contribute
to planning and delivery of annual NT Defence Week and the Northern Territory's participation in defence trade shows.
Context statement
The DefenceNT unit aims to build the capacity of the Northern Territory to support Australia's defence and national security objectives
in Northern Australia. The Industry Engagement team works with local businesses to identify capabilities that support Defence
maintenance, sustainment and support across the estate, platforms and programs. This assistance enables businesses to increase their
defence business maturity and access to opportunities through engagement with Department of Defence, the Australian Defence Force
and defence prime contractors.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Conduct research and analysis of approved and proposed Defence and national security projects, identify opportunities for the NT
Defence support industry and formulate strategies to maximise NT industry engagement.
2. Compile statistics and develop reports and papers profiling Defence, national security organisations and the Defence industry in the
NT.
1. Build relationships with industry and industry associations and provide support to help grow and align local business to meet the needs
of Defence and national security organisations and capture related contracts.
4. Organise industry delegations to represent the NT Defence support industry at Australian and international tradeshows.
5. Contribute to the provision of high-level information, policy and strategic advice to the NT Government in relation to Defence, national
security and defence industry issues.
6. Prepare speeches, audio visual presentations, ministerial briefings and complex submissions for the CEO, Minister and senior NT
Government staff.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Engagement with senior military and industry representatives with highly regarded communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
as well as operate in a small team environment.
2. Demonstrated high level written communication skills and experience in undertaking research, integrity and the ability to maintain
confidentiality.
3. Strong conceptual, analytical and time management skills.
4. Well-developed project management skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
5. Demonstrated experience with industry development methodologies, preferably in a Defence or national security setting.
6. Sound understanding of the Defence and national security sector and industry base in the NT.
7. Hold an NT drivers licence with the ability to travel intra-territory and interstate and to attend events outside of normal business hours.
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications in business, project management or a related discipline.
