Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron (BYS) is seeking a motivated and capable Sailing Coordinator – Sail Training to lead the coordination and delivery of our Discover Sailing and training programs.
This role will suit someone with a strong sailing background who is ready to take on a broader role supporting program delivery, mentoring instructors and contributing to a thriving club sailing community.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Sailing, you will coordinate BYS's sail training programs and support a team of instructors and coaches to deliver engaging and well-run sessions on the water.
You will play a key role in shaping participant experiences, from introductory programs through to ongoing involvement in club sailing, while contributing to the development of instructors and the overall strength of the program.
This role can be structured as:
* Part-time, or
* Full-time with additional coaching responsibilities (for suitably qualified candidates)
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate the delivery of Discover Sailing Centre programs, including:
o Tackers, Junior and Youth development
o Adult Dinghy and Keelboat Learn to Sail
o OutThere Sailing and J/70 pathways
o School and group programs
* Lead, roster and support a team of instructors and coaches
* Mentor and support instructors, building their confidence and capability
* Oversee daily program operations, ensuring sessions are well planned and resourced
* Manage course administration, including bookings, systems and participant communication
* Support participant retention and progression into club sailing and membership
* Contribute to racing and regatta delivery as required
About You
You are a confident sailor who enjoys working with people and contributing to a positive club environment.
Essential:
* Strong sailing experience, with a good understanding of racing and club sailing environments
* Confidence operating on the water, including awareness of weather conditions and sound judgement
* Ability to support and guide instructors or less experienced sailors
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Good computer and administrative skills, with the ability to manage bookings, systems and participant communications efficiently
* A professional, approachable manner, with the ability to build positive relationships with members, participants and volunteers
* Availability to work weekends and flexible hours, particularly during peak summer periods
* Current Working With Children Check
Desirable:
* Coaching or instructor qualifications (Australian Sailing or equivalent)
* Sailing and racing experience
* Experience in sail training, coaching or program delivery
* Experience working with volunteers in a community sport setting
