Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Psychiatry, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.
Applicants should be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Visiting Medical Officer Determination/Staff Specialist (State) Award.
Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

This position has obligations to both Gosford Hospital under Sessional arrangements and Wyong Hospital under Fee for Service arrangements. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Visiting Medical Officer Determination/Staff Specialist (State) Award.
What you'll be doing
In addition to the normal Senior Medical Practitioner position description for the relevant clinical specialty, the incumbent will work in partnership with the Director of Mental Health Nursing/District Director of Service /General Manager and the District Clinical/ District Director in order to ensure that the Department provides high quality medical and health care services with safe, efficient and effective use of allocated resources, in line with the organisational objectives and the Clinical Services Plan.
It is imperative that the Clinical Director works in collaboration with other senior staff within the department and Site or Directorate, requiring reliable and consistent communication methods to achieve shared tasks. The Clinical Director role is a key enabler to enhance patient flow by ensuring the appropriate and timely interaction of team members with Emergency Department admissions and Allied Health and other staff to limit the Length of Stay of those admissions whilst under their care.
A key role for the Clinical Director is the dissemination of information for actioning or decision making amongst the Department and to represent that team at site and area HOD meetings.
The Clinical Director will play a key role in the overall clinical governance of mental health services, including Annual Performance Reviews and in the development and implementation of clinical models of care, consistent with best practice and quality improvement.
Qualifications
* Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
* Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and / or other equivalent specialist recognition (Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within six months may be considered. If successful the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.)
* Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Psychiatry.
* Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
* Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; Previous experience in teaching the management of the deteriorating patient would be advantageous.
* Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
* Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE Values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
