Full-Time Permanent Position (38 hours per week)

About the Barkly Region

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

About us

The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). Employing 250 staff, of whom 67% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to delivering services for residents of the region.

About the Role

Barkly Regional Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Regional Manager Operations to lead the delivery of municipal and commercial services across our communities.

Reporting to the Chief of Operations, this pivotal role is responsible for managing teams in remote Service Centres and overseeing key services such as waste management, parks and open spaces, animal welfare, and internal roads. You'll be planning, developing, and reporting on projects and initiatives that are aligned with Council's strategic objectives—making a lasting impact in some of the Territory's most unique and culturally rich communities.

The Essentials

* Extensive experience in a similar role managing staff with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members to foster independence and increase local ownership of the service.
* Extensive experience in managing budgets, financial procedures, and reporting.
* Ability to contribute to Annual, Strategic and Business Plans.
* Ability to manage and oversee Commercial contracts and project activities.
* Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Cars) (CPCWHS1001).
* Driver's Licence.
* National Police Criminal History Check.
* Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card – Northern Territory)

The Finer Details

* Full-Time Temporary position paying Above EBA Award Classification of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
* Annual Salary of $137,000.00 per annum ($5,269.23 gross per fortnight).
* 12% Superannuation.
* Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.
