About this Position:

The Plant Operator Resource Recovery is responsible for operating heavy plant and vehicles to support the safe, efficient, and compliant movement, compaction, and management of waste materials at Council’s waste facilities.

What we trust you to deliver:

* Heavy Plant Operation: Operates a variety of heavy plant equipment such as track dozer, compactor, backhoe, roller, excavator, wheeled front-end loader, skid steer, and forklift with competence and efficiency. Ensures safe use in accordance with site procedures and operational standards.
* Heavy Rigid Vehicle Operation: Drives and operates Heavy Rigid (HR) vehicles such as, but not limited to, HR tippers, water trucks, side-arm and rear-loader waste collection vehicles, hook trucks, and bin trucks. Ensures safe and efficient operation in line with site procedures and transport regulations.
* Environmental Controls: Installation and maintenance of environmental controls, with an understanding of how to apply them in varying site and weather conditions. Adheres to EPA regulations and reporting requirements to minimise environmental impact and support sustainable operations.
* Equipment Maintenance: Ensure heavy vehicles and plant equipment are maintained by completing and reporting daily roadworthy inspections and prestart inspections.

What you will need to be successful:

* Proven ability to operate heavy plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
* Strong knowledge and practical application of Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
* Understanding of National Heavy Vehicle Regulations and compliance obligations.
* Sound understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems and their application in plant operations.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to prepare incident reports.
* Conduct excavator operations – RIIMP0320F or similar
* Conduct wheeled front-end loader operations - RIIMP0321F or similar
* Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence
* General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
* Current Forklift Licence (LF Class)

Full position description:

Full Time: 76 hours per fortnight

Salary: From $1,301.50 (Grade 9 Entry) per week + superannuation

Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment are in the Local Government (State) Award and relevant Council policy, procedures and agreements.

Pre-employment Screening: Prior to employment, there will be a series of pre-employment checks that may include, health assessments, validation of right to work in Australia, validation of qualifications and licences, criminal history checks, psychometric assessments and referee checks.

Immunisation Program

Council has an immunisation program to provide employees with vaccinations against known health risks associated with their respective duties and to identify any exposure to products that may affect an employee’s health, fitness and wellbeing. This position has been identified as a risk to the employee and as such the successful applicant/s will be required to participate in the immunisation program and it is the applicant’s responsibility to have undertaken relevant immunisation/s prior to commencement with Council.
