About the position
The Manager Health and Building will provide direction and coordination in relation to Council's environmental health and building services. The Manager will contribute to the development and implementation of processes to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the unit by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, improved communication and greater service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the assessment of a range of applications made under the Environmental Planning andAssessment Act, Local Government Act, Public Health Act, Food Act and other relevant legislation
* Develop, implement, monitor and continually improve the delivery of services within the department
* Manage delivery of Strategic and Operational Plans
* Assist in the preparation of the Health and Building unit budget, and reporting any significant variations with recommended solutions
* Delegate or complete food shop, skin penetration and hairdresser shop inspections and approve
* Inspect wastewater disposal systems
* Delegate or perform as a Principle Certifying Authority for all classes of buildings on behalf of Council
* Support the Health & Building staff, particularly any trainees in undertaking their role and gaining experience
About you
* You hold a degree or post-graduate qualification in Building Surveying, Building, Construction, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related discipline, with relevant experience. Registration as a Building Surveyor – Restricted (all classes of buildings) under the Building and Development Certifiers Regulation 2020 is required where applicable.
* At least 5 years' experience in environmental health or building compliance
* A current driver's licence
* A strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, and resolve conflict
* The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
* Sound knowledge of budget development and management
What we offer
* Permanent, full time, 35 hours per week
* Salary from $129,023 to $142,143 per year (depending on qualifications, skills and experience) plus 12% superannuation
* Excess hours agreement (10% of the base salary)
