This agency plays an important national role in supporting and coordinating programs and services that have impact across multiple sectors. It has a strong commitment to good governance, accountability, and capability uplift across all corporate and operational areas.
Their procurement function has recently expanded to meet growing demand and ensure the consistent application of best practice across both ICT and non-ICT procurements. With an ambitious reform and uplift agenda underway, it's an exciting time to join a team that is building the next generation of procurement excellence.
The Opportunity
Following a recent restructure, the procurement function has moved from a small, centralised model to a specialist, stream-based structure covering ICT procurement, non-ICT procurement, reporting & governance, and capability uplift. Two ongoing opportunities exist — one at APS6 (Senior Procurement Officer) level and one at EL1 (Assistant Director) level — both primarily aligned to ICT procurement while collaborating across other categories as required.
This is a high-moment opportunity to join a growing team driving systems and process modernisation, capability uplift, and stronger governance. Flexible working arrangements are supported and candidates based in major Australian cities will be considered, with a preference for those able to work closely with national stakeholders.
Flexible work arrangements are available, and while Canberra is preferred, other capital city locations may be considered for the right candidate.
The Role
Working within the Procurement and Commercial Services section, you will deliver compliant, efficient and commercially sound procurement and contract outcomes.
APS6 (Senior Procurement Officer)
* Manage end-to-end procurements (planning, approach to market, evaluation, negotiation, award and contract management)
* Draft and review procurement documentation; ensure artefacts are recorded in corporate systems
* Support process improvement and capability‑building activities; provide pragmatic advice to business areas
* Lead a small team of procurement professionals and oversee complex/high‑value procurements
* Shape procurement strategy, strengthen governance and drive continuous improvement across the function
* Act as an escalation point for business areas and provide expert advice to senior executives
Typical procurements include ICT categories (hardware, software, telecommunications, digital projects and related professional services) as well as cross‑category work. Projects range from mid‑value tenders through to occasionally larger, multi‑million‑dollar procurements.
The Ideal Person
You'll bring a solid grounding in Commonwealth procurement, ideally gained across a range of categories. Experience in ICT procurement hardware, software, telecommunications, ICT projects, or professional services, will be highly regarded but isn't essential.
We're looking for someone who has:
* Sound experience at APS6 level (or equivalent) managing end‑to‑end procurements in the public sector
* EL1: significant senior procurement experience (including people leadership), ability to advise senior executives, and experience managing complex or high‑risk procurements
* Strong written and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare procurement documentation and navigate CPRs confidently
* A collaborative and curious mindset, with an interest in improving processes and sharing knowledge
* The confidence to engage with stakeholders and contribute to cultural and capability uplift within a growing team
You are required to hold a Baseline Security Clearance and an Australian Citizenship.
