Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) are seeking to establish a pool for Teachers – Instrumental Music – Brass for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
Suitable applicants will desirably possess a high level of teaching and performance competence of Brass Instruments.
We are looking for candidates who adopt a flexible approach to their working day and who will embrace the opportunity to work within a variety of environments. Suitable applicants will be required to teach students from years 5 – 12 in small groups, in a variety of schools within Western Australia. The ability to implement the four aspects of the IMSS pedagogical framework, Play by Ear, Play from Notation, Play from Memory, and Improvisation, are core to what we value in our teachers. As a Brass teacher, you may be expected to conduct ensembles in some of the schools in which you work. You will be responsible for negotiating your own timetable with the schools in your allocation.
There is a particularly close collegial relationship amongst staff that allows for significant professional growth as a teacher and musician. Teachers working for this service will join a passionate and committed team of educators who are highly skilled in music performance as well as music education. IMSS is a large service provider which works across metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools, providing instrumental instruction to students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine students working collaboratively across year levels and with students from other schools.

12. complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
13. complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
14. complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
