Products and Process Engineer

The Products and Process Engineer will manage and coordinate the research, development, and implementation of innovative technologies and process improvements within the sawmilling and timber processing environment.

This role will analyse and support operational efficiency, ensuring product quality, and maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards through technical and research-based solutions to maintain Wespines' competitive edge in the timber industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Development

Manage, coordinate and/or participate in product development including conducting trials and experiments to test new processes, products, and machinery.

Technical

Evaluate and introduce new technologies, automation options, and process enhancements (e.g. saw optimisation, kiln drying techniques, waste reduction).

Compliance and Safety

Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g. AS/NZS timber standards), environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements. Recommend and implement strategies for continuous improvement in processes, products, and safety.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Structural or Civil, or related field) or equivalent experience.
* Valid C Class Drivers Licence.
* Experience in Research and Development, process engineering, or a manufacturing environment.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, with experience in data analysis and process optimisation.
* Proficiency with relevant technical software and data analysis tools.
* Knowledge of Australian Building Codes and Standards, timber product and properties and advanced manufacturing technology (desirable but not essential)
* Verbal and written communication skills including report writing and public presentation.
* Analytical and Problem‐Solving Skills.

* Adaptability to changing priorities and learning new technologies.
