Through inclusivity and collaboration, we create exceptional designs that inspire and connect.Position Summary:The Senior Design Researcher plays a critical role in leading research projects, providing expert advice, and mentoring junior research staff. This position is responsible for driving high-quality research outcomes, developing and maintaining research partnerships, and ensuring research excellence.Key aspects of the role include designing and implementing research programs, analysing complex data, and communicating research findings to various stakeholders. The Senior Design Researcher will also provide leadership and guidance on research methodology, ethics, and governance.The ideal candidate will possess a strong research background, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch LeadershipLead the development and implementation of prioritised research programs and projects.Lead delivery of high-quality research outcomes and collateral, including research reports, white papers, articles, and slide decks.Lead workshops with internal COX audiences and external stakeholders.Supervise and support project researchers and research team members.Research ExpertiseProvide expert advice and guidance on all stages of research projects, including research design, methodology, and analysis.Be responsible for synthesizing and analysing complex primary and secondary data to inform research outcomes.Assist with developing and maintaining research partnerships with external partners, including industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations.Lead development and delivery of research training webinars for architects, based on the National Standard of Competency for Architects (NSCA).Team Leadership and CollaborationLead and supervise research team members, including project researchers, honours or postgraduate research students, interns and other research staff.Be responsible for mentoring and supporting junior research staff, providing guidance and advice on research processes, methods, tools, and techniques.Collaborate with other researchers and stakeholders to collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data, using a range of methods and tools.Research Communication and DisseminationBe responsible for writing and curating high-quality research content including for white papers, reports, articles, and presentations.Lead the production of research reports, including designing and creating graphics, tables, and other visual elements.Present research findings to COX audiences and lead research workshops, webinars and team meetings.Develop research proposals, both internal and external, including grant applications.Research Governance and EthicsBe responsible for ensuring that research projects are conducted in accordance with COX Procedures ManualAssist with ensuring research is conducted responsibly, ethically and with integrity, adhering to relevant research policies, standards, ethics and data management.Lead the coordination of research ethics and consent processes, including preparing and submitting ethics applications, responding to ethics committee feedback and obtaining informed consent from research participants.Qualifications and Skills required:Qualifications and ExperienceQualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Built Environment or Social Sciences).Experience: 3+ years of experience as a practice-based design researcher or related role in the Architecture | Engineering | Construction (AEC) industry, or a related field.Experience creating research collateral such as white papers, design guidelines, though pieces and client presentations.Technical SkillsReference Management Software: Proven ability in managing references and citations using tools such as EndNote, Zotero, or Mendeley.Research methods: Skilled in qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, focus groups and surveys.Survey software: Proficient with survey software such as SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics.Data Management: Proficient in the use of data management principles and practices, including data collection, storage, and analysis.Database Management: skilled in maintaining and updating research databases, spreadsheets, and other knowledge management tools.Statistical Analysis: Proficient in statistical analysis concepts and software, such as Excel, R, or SPSS.Project Management: Proficient with project management principles and practices, including project planning, timelines, and budgets.Communication Tools: Proven ability in using communication tools, such as Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.Soft SkillsCommunication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex research concepts to various audiences.Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary research teams and facilitate collaboration among team members.Leadership: Experienced in leading small project teams, mentoring team members, and driving team spirit and motivation.Analytical and Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically evaluate research data and methods.Time Management and Organisation: Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date research records and databases.Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing research priorities and
