Offer description

Brimarco has been a respected Australian manufacturer of heavy-duty trailers and custom vehicles for more than 45 years. We design and build high-quality, engineered products for a wide range of industries including agriculture, transport, government, emergency services, commercial and industrial sectors - and our supply chain plays a vital role in supporting our production capability.

We are seeking a Purchasing Officer who is organised, commercially minded, and committed to supporting a busy manufacturing environment. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Ballarat, Victoria.

About the Role

As Purchasing Officer, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, components, and services required for our production activities. You will work closely with Production, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement that supports smooth workflows and accurate cost control.

This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, follow-through, and clear communication are essential.

Key Responsibilities

* Monitor stock levels and production schedules to prevent shortages or excess inventory
* Source and purchase materials, components, and consumables to meet production needs and Brimarco's quality standards
* Obtain and evaluate competitive quotes based on price, quality, and lead time
* Communicate effectively with suppliers to ensure timely supply, cost-reduction opportunities, and strong relationship management
* Source new suppliers or alternatives as needed, and assist with supplier evaluation and continuous improvement
* Process purchase orders, billing, and documentation accurately and efficiently
* Track deliveries, follow up on overdue or urgent orders, and assist with receiving and verifying deliveries for accuracy
* Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing, and supplier data within the ERP system
* Assist with inventory systems and records, including accurate moving average costs and regular stocktakes
* Monitor procurement costs and identify opportunities for savings without compromising quality
* Support resolution of supplier quality or delivery issues
* Support improvements to purchasing workflows that enhance efficiency and reduce waste

About You

You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy working in a structured yet fast-moving environment where accuracy, communication, and follow-through are key.

Essential qualities:

* Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or a related function within a commercial or industrial environment
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise work in a dynamic production environment
* Confident and clear communicator, capable of building effective working relationships with suppliers and internal teams
* Proficiency in MS Office and experience with ERP, inventory, or financial systems
* Strong analytical and numerical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
* Demonstrated ethical conduct, professionalism, and ability to manage confidential or sensitive information
* Ability to interpret basic technical drawings or specifications (or willingness to learn).

Beneficial experience:

* Background in manufacturing, automotive, fabrication, warehousing, or similar industries
* Understanding of lead times, BOMs (Bills of Materials), engineered components, or production workflows
* Familiarity with supplier performance monitoring, cost analysis, or continuous improvement in a purchasing environment
* Formal qualifications in business, logistics, or supply chain are welcome but not essential

What We Offer

* A stable, long-standing Australian manufacturer with over 45 years of success
* A collaborative, supportive team environment where your contribution is valued and recognised
* The opportunity to contribute to meaningful, high-quality engineered products
* Competitive salary and genuine opportunities for skill development and career progression

We aim to begin interviewing in early January for a mid-late January commencement, with some flexibility for the right candidate. Shortlisting will begin as applications are received.

If you're a proactive, detail-oriented purchasing professional ready to join a leading Australian manufacturer and play a key role in delivering quality outcomes that matter, we'd love to hear from you.

Please apply with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience.
