This position contributes to the role of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) as a Solicitor and Counsel in critical and sensitive summary prosecutions.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Remuneration

$221,729 per annum

Period of Appointment

5 year senior executive appointment - equivalent specialist (senior lawyers)

Duties
* To act as solicitor and counsel in complex, critical and sensitive summary and criminal proceedings before the Supreme Court and Magistrates Court and in matter's arising from those proceedings, in particular regulatory prosecutions from WorkSafe Tasmania and other government agencies.
* To provide high level legal, policy and strategic advice to Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of complex, critical, novel and sensitive legal issues, the management of his Office and its relationships with stakeholders.
* To provide professional supervision to all legal summary practitioners including guiding, mentoring, coaching and performance management.
* To manage relationships with external stakeholders including WorkSafe Tasmania, Consumer Building and Occupational Services, Department of Health, Department of State Growth, Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, Tasmania Police and other Crown instrumentalities as required.
* To act as counsel in such other matters involving the State and its Agencies as may be directed from time to time by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
* To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Essential Requirements

* Admitted or qualified and entitled to be admitted as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania with not less than seven years standing as an Australian lawyer.

* Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
* Disciplinary action in previous employment.
* Identification check.
