About the role
Advance College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Officer to join our team on the Mornington Peninsula. This is a full-time position that will provide vital support to students with special educational needs, helping them to reach their full potential. As a Learning Support Officer, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to ensure our students receive the individualised attention and resources they require.
What you'll be doing
* Understand a student’s identified learning difficulties and offer them assistance in the classroom.
* Work with teachers’ by modelling active participation, providing them assistance, intervening and encouraging young people and, where appropriate providing 1:1 instructional support.
* Liaise with other Support staff and Teaching staff to maintain a comprehensive support program, tracking student progress.
* Document adjustments and assistance given to support students and provide a running record.
* Support the delivery, organisation and/or follow up of assessments in consultation with classroom teachers.
* Facilitate social interaction, promoting independence and assisting students with their personal organisation.
* Accompany students on excursions and other designated external activities e.g. VET courses.
* Attend meetings and providing feedback related to young people progress.
* Assist in establishing an inclusive and culturally safe school.
What we're looking for
* Qualification in School based education support, youth work or social work would be highly regarded.
* Hold a valid Working with Children Check
* Valid First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
* Valid Australian Driver’s
* Equivalent experience in a similar role.
* Previous experience supporting young people in a child safe organisation.
