The Role
Are you a data architect who loves building the data pipelines and transformations that power an enterprise?
We are looking for a BI Analyst Programmer (Data Engineer) to join our Reporting & Analysis team in a fast paced retail environment. This role is for a "builder" who can design, develop, and maintain our data ecosystem. You won\'t just move data, you\'ll orchestrate and transform it across diverse environments to ensure our organization has reliable, high quality structured data for everything from high stakes regulatory compliance to real-time retail operations.
This position is designed for an experienced professional who can navigate the intricacies of both traditional relational databases and modern cloud platforms to ensure "everything flows." Your core focus will be to partner with internal stakeholders and data specialists to translate business needs into robust, automated data workflows. You will champion data quality, adhere to established frameworks, and act as a Subject Matter Expert on SQL optimisation, indexing, and modern warehousing concepts.
What You\'ll Do
Reporting to the Manager of Reporting & Analysis, you will:
* Architect & Orchestrate: Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and robust data models using Star Schema, Data Vault, or Lakehouse architectures.
* Bridge the Hybrid Gap: Seamlessly manage data flows between traditional relational databases (eg, SQL Server, Oracle) and modern cloud environments (eg, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Genesys Cloud).
* Engineer for Performance: Partner with Data Analysts to provision low-latency, high-performance datasets optimized for visualization, analysis, ML projects, and daily operations.
* Operational Excellence: Implement version control (Git), automated quality rules, and workflow orchestration (Airflow) to ensure our data ecosystem is resilient, audit-ready, and secure.
* Lead through Expertise: Act as the internal expert on SQL optimization and data design principles, mentoring the wider team to prevent reporting irregularities.
Who You Are
You are a technical specialist who views data through the lens of software engineering. You value clean code, scalable architecture, and operational stability.
* The Technical Master: Mastery of SQL and proficiency in Python. You have extensive experience in data modeling, ETL/ELT, and performance tuning across hybrid platforms (GCP, Snowflake, Oracle, etc.).
* The Problem Solver: You don\'t just fix bugs; you identify root causes. You have a "Conceptual Thinking" mindset that transforms complex requirements into elegant technical solutions.
* The Quality Champion: You have a fanatic attention to detail. You understand that "bad data in" means "bad decisions out," and you are committed to rigorous data governance.
* Downstream Aware: While you focus on the backend, you have a solid understanding of BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) and how data is consumed by the end user.
* The Collaborator: You are a strong communicator who can partner with source system owners and influence data design across the business.
* Qualified: You hold a relevant degree (Computer Science, Math, or Data Science) and understand the commercial/regulatory drivers of the Energy sector
Why Join Us
