We're looking for an experienced
Machine Learning Engineer (EL1)
to lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced ML solutions for an
Australian Government client
.
This role plays a key part in enabling data-driven decision-making, supporting the agency's cloud and AI roadmap, and delivering impactful machine learning systems in a secure, ethical, and compliant environment.

Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and deploy machine learning models for complex datasets
* Develop and maintain ML pipelines for training, testing, and production deployment
* Optimise models for performance, scalability, and operational monitoring
* Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to align ML solutions with business needs
* Ensure adherence to government security frameworks (ISM, PSPF) and ethical AI standards
* Leverage the GovAI platform and work within AWS/Services Australia environments
* Support the agency's broader cloud transformation roadmap
* Provide technical advice, mentoring, and uplift capability within the data and insights team
* Stay current with best practices in ML Ops and AI development
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience delivering machine learning solutions in complex environments
* Strong programming skills in
Python
and familiarity with ML libraries such as
TensorFlow

PyTorch
, and
Scikit-learn
* Experience with ML Ops tools such as Kubeflow

MLflow
, and
Airflow
* Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS
, Azure, or GCP), containerisation, and orchestration (

)
* Background in data engineering, feature engineering, and model optimisation
* Solid problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities
