We're looking for a collaborative and service‐focused Management Accountant to join our Finance team and help build strong, trusted financial partnerships across Council.
What we're looking for
You're an accounting professional with experience in commercial and/or government accounting who enjoys working closely with the business to turn financial information into meaningful insights. You bring strong analytical and reporting skills, complemented by the ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non‐finance stakeholders. You're someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, is committed to continuous improvement, and genuinely wants to help others succeed. With appropriate tertiary qualifications and a commitment to progressing toward CPA or CA accreditation, you'll be comfortable supporting budget development, forecasts, system improvements and performance monitoring. Experience in a local government environment, along with strong Excel skills and exposure to tools such as Power BI or TechnologyOne, will be highly regarded.
What you'll be doing
* Promote a genuine "we are here to help" culture within the Finance Department
* Work closely with a Senior Management Accountant to deliver high‐quality financial reporting, guidance and support across Council
* Assist with month‐end processes, including journals, reconciliations and reporting
* Support the preparation and review of operating budgets and forecasts for Council approval
* Act as a conduit between business units and the Financial Accounting Team to ensure timely, accurate financial information
* Partner with supervisors and managers to improve understanding of financial performance and budget outcomes
* Provide finance‐related advice and modelling support to staff across Council
* Assist with grants management
* Support the ongoing improvement and effective use of financial systems and reporting tools
* Help document procedures, resolve system issues and drive continuous improvement in reporting and processes
* Deliver excellent customer service and maintain open communication around risks and issues
