They manage critical transmission networks, distribution systems, and connection infrastructure supporting renewable energy integration, network reliability, and electricity supply to millions of customers. The business is expanding power systems engineering capability to support network development, renewable energy connections, and infrastructure investment. They require experienced power systems expertise to deliver network analysis, protection system design, and technical solutions supporting network operations and development activities. They are seeking a Power Systems Engineer to deliver power systems analysis, network design, and technical engineering for transmission and distribution infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to work on critical network infrastructure whilst supporting Victoria's energy transition. The Role As Power Systems Engineer, you will deliver power systems analysis, network design, and technical engineering for transmission and distribution infrastructure. This role requires strong technical capability in power systems, network analysis, and protection engineering supporting network planning, connections, and operational activities. You will conduct power systems studies including load flow, fault analysis, and stability studies, design protection systems and control schemes, support network connection assessments and design, analyse network performance and constraints, and provide technical input to network planning and investment decisions. Working with network planning, connections, and operations teams, you will ensure technical solutions are robust, compliant, and operationally effective. This is a technical engineering role requiring both analytical capability and practical application, with direct impact on network performance, reliability, and renewable energy integration. Key Responsibilities Power Systems Analysis: Conduct load flow studies, fault level analysis, and voltage stability assessments for transmission and distribution networks Perform short circuit analysis and fault current calculations Analyse network performance, constraints, and thermal limits Conduct dynamic stability studies and transient analysis Model network configurations, generation connections, and load scenarios Develop network models and maintain system databases Protection Systems Design: Design protection schemes for transmission and distribution infrastructure Develop protection settings and coordination studies Design control systems and automation schemes Assess protection system performance and identify improvements Support commissioning and testing of protection systems Ensure protection compliance with network standards and codes Network Connections & Integration: Support connection assessments for generators, loads, and embedded networks Conduct connection impact studies and system strength assessments Design connection infrastructure including substations and transmission lines Assess renewable energy integration and inverter-based resources Coordinate connection technical requirements with developers and customers Support AEMO connection application processes Network Planning & Development: Provide technical input to network planning and investment decisions Assess network augmentation options and development strategies Analyse network capacity, constraints, and upgrade requirements Support asset management and infrastructure investment planning Develop technical specifications for network infrastructure Evaluate emerging technologies and network solutions Technical Standards & Compliance: Ensure network design compliance with Australian Standards, NER, and network codes Apply power system protection standards and industry guidelines Support regulatory compliance and technical rule requirements Maintain technical documentation and design standards Review and approve technical designs and engineering deliverables Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with network planning teams on network development and investment Support connections teams with technical assessments and design Coordinate with operations teams on network performance and constraints Liaise with AEMO on system studies and technical requirements Engage with external stakeholders including generators, developers, and customers Provide technical advice to project teams and senior management Requirements Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or power systems engineering 5-10 years' experience in power systems engineering, network planning, or transmission/distribution operations Strong technical capability in power systems analysis including load flow, fault analysis, and stability studies Experience with power systems software including PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or similar tools Understanding of protection systems, control schemes, and network automation Knowledge of Australian electricity networks including NEM operations and network codes Familiarity with National Electricity Rules, network standards, and technical compliance Experience with network connection assessments and generator integration Understanding of renewable energy integration, inverter-based resources, and system strength Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Project management capability managing multiple concurrent engineering activities Professional Engineer status (CPEng) or eligibility desirable Experience with transmission networks, distribution systems, or network service providers advantageous Understanding of AEMO processes, connection frameworks, and regulatory requirements preferred Please submit your CV and a professional biography addressing: Power systems engineering experience including network analysis, protection design, or network planning Technical capability with power systems software and analysis tools Examples of power systems studies or engineering projects you have delivered Understanding of Australian electricity networks, standards, and regulatory frameworks Ability to work across network planning, connections, and operations teams For Further Information Contact Ivan Pignataro | Director D'Arcy Weil T: 61 3 9999 7409 M: 0416 507 856 E: ivan@darcyweil.com This role is being managed exclusively by Ivan Pignataro at D'Arcy Weil.
