259 Kildare Road, Doonside NSW, AustraliaThe Aboriginal Family Case Worker position is funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) Program.
The objective of the program is to deliver flexible early intervention support to children, young people, families, and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability to prevent escalation and to address risk factors that may lead to entry into the child protection system.Reporting to the Family Services Coordinator, the Aboriginal Family Case Worker is responsible for the delivery of Case Management to vulnerable and at-risk families within the community.
The Family Case Worker uses a strengths and evidence-based approach to facilitate and deliver culturally appropriate early intervention programs and groups that build the capacity of children, young people, and families.
The Family Case Worker will also provide information and referral of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to other relevant Aboriginal programs and services.
Responsibilities Provide individual casework and case management support to families experiencing or at risk of vulnerability within the Blacktown and Penrith LGAsFacilitate parenting programs, activities, and other supports with the aim to identify emerging issues of concerns within families and promote the importance of parenting to child outcomesProvide information and community outreach to children, young people, and their familiesIdentify early signs of risk, such as homelessness, domestic violence and other threats to their health, safety and wellbeing and refer as appropriate to specialised services and interventionsCollaborate with other organisations such as early childhood education centres, schools, community health, homelessness, and domestic violence servicesWork closely with local community and health services to provide holistic and integrated care services, and facilitate the effective engagement, referral, and support for families to access other relevant Aboriginal services and programs Quality Management Provide information to participants on their rights and responsibilitiesMaintain privacy and confidentialityEnsure accurate and confidential recording and maintenance of personal and organisational documentationMaintain up-to-date client records and comply with data collection standardsImplement best practice and quality standards Team Development Participate in the growth and development of the teamSupport peers while respecting individualityParticipate in organisation-wide team meetings, collaborative planning activities and quality assurance activities to ensure ongoing improvement of the service Organisational Development Contribute to the decision-making processes within the organisationAssist with the ongoing development of SRAC, continuous quality improvement activities, and contribute to evaluation as requiredPrepare recommendations, reports and proposals, as necessary, to meet funding requirements and findings of the program Community Development Conduct community capacity building and community education and training activities designed to raise awareness, understanding and improved support for vulnerable and at risk Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander familiesPromote SRAC services to our target group, health and welfare agencies, community groups and the general community and encourage their involvement and supportAssist in the development and coordination of SRAC events and community awareness activities that increase access and participation for Aboriginal people Professional Development Participate in staff development opportunitiesParticipate in regular supervision with your supervisorContribute to individual work plan and/or training planMaintain professional qualifications and keep up to date with best practice Special Projects The Aboriginal Family Case Worker may be required to undertake additional work on special projects, workshops, conferences, and community forums for the organisation which may involve regional and interstate travel.
This work will be consistent, unless otherwise agreed to by both parties, with those duties of the role as set out above.
Requirements Aboriginality.

Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT ****Qualifications in health, social work, psychology, early childhood education or extensive relevant experience in similar rolePrevious experience and strong commitment to working with Indigenous people & communities, and a broad understanding of the issues experienced by Aboriginal families living in our communityWorks independently and effectively manages time and resources to provide professional, clear, accurate and prompt information to various stakeholders in a complex work environmentHigh level communication skills, and demonstrated problem solving, effective prioritisation and escalation skillsDemonstrated ability to coordinate the provision of quality, person-centred community engagement and outreach programs, workshops, presentations, and eventsCurrent Working with Children Check (WWCC), and unrestricted NSW drivers' licence About the Company Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC) is an established Aboriginal community-controlled organisation in Greater Western Sydney.
